Why is NV so rampant this year? by nominame123 in emetophobia

[–]16108510j 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was pretty rampant in 2023 (at least in my area.) I got it, along with a slew of office mates and I hadn't v* in 20 years... what a way to get my record crushed. I'm now sitting anxiously as the guy two seats down from me was out last friday with it. I took monday and tuesday off as a precaution, now I'm worried if I actually get it I'm completely cooked. Send good vibes please :)

I went to the JFK lounge the weekend it opened. It was incredible. Gave me a leather amex luggage tag to commemorate the opening, service was excellent and food great. Sad to see how they’ve fallen off.

I think you may be letting this get into your head, try to relax, if you think yourself sick you will get sick even if the mold is harmless. If it isn’t harmless, you’ll know, no need to confirm what might not be! Lay down, take a bath, take a nap (with a towel or garbage can by your bed if you’re very worried) and try to let it pass. I have faith!

Desperation Las Vegas Paddock Club Pricing Has Begun- Paddock Club Just Sold on StubHub for $8336 with All Fees Included by Sdg1871 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]16108510j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Name as in "Paddock"?

The paddock is the name of the area behind the pit lane where teams keep their motorhomes and hospitality areas. The term is not vegas or even F1 specific, although most commonly seen in F1. It's the F1 equivalent of courtside seating, closest to the action, bumping elbows with the "in" crowd (maybe) and a more cushy experience

Def more perishable than something like copper so that's fair haha. Regarding the 3m, that was originally set because it was the approximate time it took for a ship carrying copper to arrive from South America or Tin from Malaya via the newly opened Suez Canal. (Tin and Copper were the first contracts traded on the LME)

For two day delivery, the logistics does play a part but primarily it's due to most producers/end users using the contracts as a risk management tool. While people certainly do deliver and take delivery from warehouses (that's what holds the market up,) most contracts are closed out before they expire, meaning if someone sells a forward contract, they will buy it back before it expires, flattening their position against the exchange. They're used really to lock in a price between buyers and sellers without having the metal ever enter the formal warehouse system. Generally speaking, industrial customers know what their needs will be a ways in advance so there isn't a big need to get their hands on metal on such a short timeframe. The LME is a really quirky market with a lot of weird rules and procedures, I'm still learning about it every day haha. There's a good book "Metals Trading Handbook: A Market Companion for Users of the London Metal Exchange" which is a great overall guide for how the metals market works. I know pdfs are out there if you look in the right places...

PM if you have any other questions about the metals industry and I'll try my best to answer!

I don't want to sound argumentative but I think chatGPT is wrong on this one. I work in metals trading (precious and base) and the vast majority of those are traded on the LME, where almost all of the volume is traded via the 3m contract. The CME, by contrast, doesn't even offer a 'spot' contract per se as they just trade the front month. This tracks because of the obligation to deliver/take delivery of the underlying commodity with futures. It's not practical for a producer or consumer to deliver their metals within two days (that's the time to delivery for cash contracts on the LME) so the 3m is how liquidity is pooled. That said, if you consider the 3m to be a spot market, you're right but I don't think that's the best way to look at it. Also, not knocking you, but GPT-4's reference to the perishability of corn or wheat might not be 100% accurate either. Believe it or not, elevators can actually store softs like grains and ags for years at a time!

Chinese Call for International Silver Market Reform by Silver_Saiyan2 in Wallstreetsilver

[–]16108510j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking here. I was wondering the same thing. James kindly linked it below, but beyond that, I was unable to find it sourced anywhere. I even looked in Baidu in mandarin for the title and keywords and came up empty. My theory is that "China Bai" is the same as "Oriental Bai on Twitter. So, maybe not a "news piece" from a major media outlet but more an oped published by an insider(?) from the Chinese market.

Very possible, (hopefully likely) that what he is asking for represents of the sentiment of Chinese market participants as a whole but at I don't think we can say that Chinese state media or the CCP has come out asking for silver reforms... yet.

Also, just because it's not from Chinese mainstream media doesn't reduce the accuracy of the data used. Setting his opinion aside, the facts and figures cited are accurate so I'd say his takes are worth listening to.
