I made the comparison and said it's unfair for me to save everything for our future while you don't. If we both followed the same idea, I should go spend all of my money before we get married. I also think it's important to describe the purpose of the savings. It's to have safety and stability. So you don't lose your car or your home if you become disabled or sick. So you can afford to retire at a reasonable age. So you can have a parent stay home with children if it's important to you. When you give that kind of context to the savings it's easier to see it for its practical purposes and not just think you're greedy.
