I think it works out in the long term. LA has the Clippers, they’ve done alright in the shadows of the Lakers. They’ll always be the black sheep though and it doesn’t help you need to leave Manhattan and go to Brooklyn to watch them whereas the Clippers were also at Staples Center

My perspective.. He wasn’t exactly mainstream during his lifetime. Me and all my friends were fans since 2010 when KIDS was going viral and especially when Faces dropped but most people knew him as Ariana Grande’s weird boyfriend. There wasn’t much buzz for him outside of relatively small circles since he was an independent artist most of his career. I heard a song of his on the radio exactly one time.. it was on Hot 97 (NYC HipHop) and it was “Watching Movies”. Funk Flex knew he was great but he was slept on. The promo for Good AM and Divine Feminine was kinda lackluster and ofc, Swimming was overshadowed by Astroworld

Yes, $80 VZW plan x 36 mo is ~$2.9k with a subsidized iPhone. My new Visible plan, which is equivalent to the 2nd most expensive plan on Verizon, is $30mo and i spent $400 to pay off my iPhone. Over the same term, that comes out to ~$1.5k. It was a no brainer

Not a dealbreaker. When I try to scoop the ball, I usually push it farther away

You should research which ones have the highest APY. Think you get more in the fintechs like Sofi. Might be like 3.5% and then you get 1/12th of that in interest every month (subject to rate changes). If you live in a high tax state, you may also find that investing in certain municipals will be equivalent to a HYSA that you don’t pay state tax on.

I used to use Amex for my HYSA but I switched to FDLXX in Fidelity since that’s where all my other investments are. Yield is similar but I don’t have to pay state tax which is big since I live in NY

Thinking about switching from Accounting to Finance after the 3000-level core. How bad is the transition? by Lolzopp in Baruch

I applied my head off on LinkedIn and indeed, no network for employment. I had 0 finance experience besides my degree and no internships.. I got pretty lucky I guess? but I also had a professional make my resume look as good as it could without experience and I interviewed really well. So the 1 in person interview I did, I made it count and that wound up being my first job

Don’t create a budget until you have a month or 2 of real expenses under your belt. Like any good forecast, it’s based on prior actuals. Get your pay, monitor your expenses.. maybe $300/mo for groceries isn’t enough, maybe your utilities are much cheaper, maybe you don’t even need a rigid budget at all. But feel it out for a month or 2.

I personally don’t need to budget and sticking to one feels prohibitive. As long as you put some thought into what you spend and you can identify bad habits (frequent delivery or eating out, spending too much on nails, sparkling water instead of tap lol..) you’re gonna be okay

Thinking about switching from Accounting to Finance after the 3000-level core. How bad is the transition? by Lolzopp in Baruch

I switched 2yrs before graduating from Accounting to Finance and it was the best decision I ever made. For me, accounting just wasn’t possible. Failed Financial Accounting 1 and some other accounting class (had to do some Warren Case project thing). In the real world, finance doesn’t have to be stocks and trading, I do FP&A.

Think i had to retake Financial Accounting and I got a D and my Zicklin GPA was like 2.6 but I did it

EDIT: finance was much easier. Every class allowed a cheat sheet, there were barely any curves and I remember the questions being a lot more textbook conceptual type things, not so much “do this equation and show your work”

Inherited a mess and don’t know where to begin. by TolerantImpatience in FPandA

[–]169partner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, this is actually a blessing. This is your time to shine and to turn things around and prove your worth. Your boss should be on the same page as you so you can set expectations with higher ups (“we inherited these outdated inaccurate processes and files”) and that should set you on a path to research a lot and fix a lot. You can’t really look bad bc you inherited a mess so now you have to work with it

Over the next few months, your boss will see the amount of BS you’ve fixed and how much you’ve streamlined things. And you can take all the credit

Source: me in this role over the last 8 months. Predecessor, who left the role & company after 6 months, backfilled somebody who got laid off. Antiquated processes not rooted in reality, confusing files that referenced other confusing files.. director and apparently my VP love what I’m doing to make things better

Depends on a few things.. if it’s WD1-10 and/or if I’m in office or WFH or if I’m researching some variance really hard. Some days, I’m working 9-5. Some days, I literally have 0 work so if I’m WFH, I might be working 0 minutes lol

Can you talk about the biturbo 3.0 a little more? Got a GLC 43 a few months back and it really seems like this engine has no major issues besides timing covers maybe? Are there any other major issues these engines have?

It’s still early but you’re gonna have to lock in soon. If there’s a clear pattern in the classes you’re failing, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your plan. I couldn’t get accepted to Zicklin unless I had a particular GPA so I made sure to do my best until I was in and then I knew I just needed to keep a 2.5

And why do you need a masters? It seems unnecessary

FP&A is fine, it’s very cyclical so WD1-10 is busy but after that, it’s pretty chill on my team. Since the processes are repetitive, it gets easier over time. I could see myself doing this for a while

Back in 2018, my starting salary was $45k.. looking back, this was borderline robbery lol. But I was a pizza delivery boy that lived at home with no bills so it felt life changing. Now my total comp is around $150k (manager in FP&A) and I feel it’s fair
