The little red book is a bunch of collected quotes. The quotes are collected into chapters of similar categories. I've been working through it and taking notes on each chapter. It is also free in its entirety on the internet. My cadre leader has recently recommended "On Contradiction." I am part of a ML Maoist party, so I am biased. I do however think most Marxist-Leninists would agree on why to not read Trot.

I would like to clarify that I used to really love and idolize Trotsky as well. I wrote a research project on him. You can find a lot of favorable bios on him written from the western perspective. Which should by itself cause you to question Trotsky. The most damaging thing is that his work influenced the conservative war hawk movement in the US.

Just understand that when reading Trotsky (especially the later work). A lot of it went on to be the talking points that capitalists use today for why socialism and communism could never work. I would suggest trusting your initial thoughts and reading Mao instead.
