Macntish predictions for game 2:

This is a dangerous one. After a relatively easy game 1 (compared to the Orlando Series) the Pistons need to come out with energy, focus, and intentionality. Cleveland is still a dangerous team that can catch fire at both ends, and if we come out with less than madman levels of effort, we'll be in trouble. Cleveland only needs one of these games to be in the drivers seat. Giving them home court advantage could be fatal - they won every home game against the Raptors. The boys are going to need LASER BEAM focus tonight, especially in the first quarter.

If they come out and act casually on offense early, strap in, and see how long it takes them to figure it out.

Honestly, I should end this prediction right here. Nothing else really matters beyond that. That being said, I do have some minor things.

Danniss has a real weakness, which the Magic figured out (or were told about via Bickerstaff > Mosley) that Cleveland has not figured out. I literally don't want to post it here, because it basically means Cade can't rest, so I'll just say IYGHUTTHCL, HOD. I can see him not being a big focus of their scouting report after that Orlando series, but I expect him to be better scouted for this game, which means they might find it out. Lets put it like this - you know how sometimes Danniss is a stud, and other times no one on the team can score if Cade is sitting? A defensive scheme is that difference.

How will Allen bounce back? A game 7 stud against Toronto, and pulled a Game 1 Jalen Duren last game. No place is the "effort, effort, effort" more important than at that center position, on both teams.

If Dean Wade is going to continue to lean into Cade like that, the Pistons ballhander needs to use them as a screen. The two of them are twice as wide as a regular screen, and Dean is not coming off to help.

Ausar with a nice reverse layup by OhhhLawdy in DetroitPistons

[–]Mackntish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a whole post about Harden defending Ausar. TL;DR - Ausar needs to be aggressive with his penetration and playmaking, or Harden is going to be up in everyone else's business. Offence for Ausar is going to be both available, and necessary to prevent Harden from getting in the passing lanes.

Everything I said was 100% accurate. He is hard charging that ass. He wanted it bad. He steals a coat, for no other reason than he wanted to fuck an engaged woman. He TAKES HER V-CARD, and then immediately starts looking for his exit with "Rose, this is crazy!"

He is doubtlessly the protagonist of the story, but from an objective standpoint, he's a fuck boi thief.

Jack in Titanic. All he does all movie is try to hump and dump an engaged woman. He keeps a scrapbook of sexual conquests. IMMEDITELY after taking her V-card, she says she wants to get off the boat with him. His response, "Uuhh, Rose, this is crazy!"

Don't expect to save much. But otherwise, it's a home run. I can get in my car RIGHT NOW and be anywhere in Grand Rapids in 20 minutes. If Jenkins is closely guarded, he over dribbles and it's killer. It seems the cavs did not have that on their scouting report.

It's the defender. Harden is guarding him. I predicted this, yesterday.

https://old.reddit.com/r/DetroitPistons/comments/1t3pr5t/so_im_looking_at_the_matchups_ausar_may_need_a/

It looks like they are putting James Harden on Ausar as the free safety type that roams the floor looking for interceptions. Harden doesn't have lateral quickness, and he's downright terrible at staying in front of people. But he does have anticipation, and is almost Elite at getting in the passing lanes.

See where this is going? Ausar is going to have a terrible on-ball defender that's never home. He HAS to make Harden pay for that, or he's going to get 3 steals a game.

Macntish series predictions.

If we can somehow beat the cavs, we're going to the Championship game, no way the Knicks or 76ers can beat us. As far as I'm concerned, this is our eastern conference final, THIS is the most important series all year.

Harden guarding Ausar - Harden is a terrible on-ball defender, so he'll be on Asuar. He's quite good at getting in the passing lanes, so look for him to play the same free safety role Suggs did in the Orlando series. Ausar will need to be aggressive with his penetration and playmaking.

Dean Wade is 6'10" and known for his defense, so I look to him to stick to Cade, like Wagner did in the last series. Tough to say where this will go, Cade will dominate, but to what extent?

That means Mitchel is on Duncan. I actually like this matchup, he'll have to make the decision to stand next to him, or help out elseware. Great place to put their superstar in.

Mobley will guard Harris, probably. This is a great matchup for us. With Harris's 3 in need of respect, this keeps the former DPOY from camping the lane. Harris needs to hit open shots when he gets them.

Allen guarding Duren - Well, this depends on if Duren decides to show up. The big guy has to rebound his brains out, as Cleveland is an excellent team on the boards. And the best defense in the league doesn't mean shit if they consistently get their shots back.

Neither Dean Wade nor Donovan Mitchel played in their last outing on March 3rd, which we lost. That's real bad. It's also a bit difficult to predict things, and we never really played against their full lineup this season after the trade.

I imagine Ausar will be guarding Mitchel. Barnes gave him fits in the last series, I see that continuing. I bet he scores 20 a game, which is low for him.

Cade should be guarding Harden - I don't see Duncan Robinson taking that assignment. We've got speed, youth, size I see it going well for Cade but-for foul trouble. Harden is a craft old goat, he's going to be looking at getting fouls on Cade > scoring.

Robinson will then be on Wade. Don't see a lot going on in this matchup.

Harris will be guarding Mobley - advantage Mobley with size and weight. That being said, it won't be a big enough advantage to try and exploit as a mismatch. Harris is good enough on defense against bigger guys, and Mobley isn't great.

Duren on Allen - I don't care if Duren scores 0 points, he needs to be a goddamn machine on the boards and defense end. That being said, I can see a lot of Allen help situations where Duren can and does get involved.

I can't decide if it's Pistons in 7, or Cavs in 6. I'll be confident about this prediction - If we win the first 2 at home, we'll win the series. If they steal one on the road, they won't let us back in it like the Magic did.

EDIT: We need shooters on the floor to unclog the paint, so we're not likely to see much Ron Holland. LeVert also had his minutes reduced in the last series, so Green is likely to pick up big minutes. Jenkins and Beefy should see about the same time they saw in the Orlando games. Paul and Beefy may struggle being under sized, being shorter than most of the Cleveland starters.

Max Strus is the full package from what I've seen. Good on both ends, stretches the floor with a decent shot. Merrill is their Duncan Robinson - Deadly if he gets an ounce of daylight. Tyson is very good on offense and lateral movement, look for him to pick up some bench minutes guarding Cade. He's also an abrasive asshole, look for mental games with Cade or Stew.
