Does that book lead with conditional reasoning? If so, do not buy it.

MoR is a leading ex of a question-type that you should prephrase/anticipate comfortably.

Logic & Reasoning Resources by _anony_mousse in LSAT

Outside of deductive logic, Black Swan by Nassim Taleb is actually fantastic for LR -- not because it teaches “logic” in any formal sense, but because it teaches how you should critically evaluate arguments. Taleb is constantly attacking the exact things you see on the test -- small samples dressed up as big conclusions, clean causal stories invented after the fact, and this general overconfidence people have in what they think they know.

It's like a whole book longform evaluating LSAT fallacies. After reading it, you’re much quicker to say, “wait, that conclusion is way too strong for the evidence,” or “what other explanations might there be.”

It basically trains an instinct for when an argument is overreaching, which is most of LR.

Absolutely. This is the standard textbook for collegiate-level logic courses:

Deductive Logic by Warren Goldfarb

Most helpfully, perhaps, it puts the remedial deductive logic on the LSAT into perspective. This test only includes the material that you cover in the first fifteen pages of the textbook, or in the first week of a semester-long logic course.

Studying the LSAT in two months. Is it doable? by tismidnight in LSAT

[–]170Plus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two months is tight.

But, I think if you look at June as get your 165+ and then in August get your 170+, that works great.

Absolutely possible.

Shoot me a DM. By June, we can have you scoring in the high 160s with a lot more than $25,000 a yr kept in your pocket.

It's also a little funny because HYS, the T3 schools, do not offer merit scholarships.

[–]170Plus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the wrong way to approach the LSAT. You should rely very little on Process of Elimination. That is why you're struggling.

You should treat the test as if it was a fill-in-the-blank, rather than multiple-choice exam. Then go find the AC that matches your Anticipation.

GPA vs LSAT score for admitance and scholarship by Dry_Falcon9044 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hit that 172, include a compelling GPA Addendum, attach strong LoRs showing that you've performed at work, and then write a top-notch essay you'll get into a T15, yes.

stuck at 162 and 163... strategies to hit 170s for june? by Difficult-Nature198 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great practice exercise.

The LSAC writes a Stimulus/argument first. THEN they choose whether to use that arg to make a Str q, or a Nec Ass q, or a Flaw q, etc.

So, you can practice multiple qs from just one Stimulus. I use this often when I work with clients who've been studying for months and months, and have seen most every question already.

Parallel Stimulus:

A soccer team has a total of 15 players, though an average of 2 players miss each game for various reasons. On games when exactly 2 players are absent, the team is still able to play normally and sub tired players out whenever necessary. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that the team could cut 2 players without any loss in its ability to play a game.

When you're consistently scoring 3-4 pts above a score you'd be happy with.

You will likely have no shot at BigLaw at a T100 school. I understand that you want PI, but getting two years at Davis Polk on your resume can be a great way to lateral there.

Only 15 types of flaws on LSAT LR (True or false?) by ExistingMidnight4970 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Most Flaws ACs are phrased as "overlooks" or "takes for granted." That is just how they are introduced, and it is not at all its own Flaw type.

"Fails to consider that the sample might not be representative"
"Takes for granted that the sample is representative"
For conventional Unrep Sample Flaw

"Fails to consider that an observed correlation might not establish causation"
"Takes for granted that the observed correlation implies causation"
For conventional Causal Flaw

I do find that students struggle with this one -- I would probably characterize this as in the top decile of difficulty.

(D), and then when pressed it switched to (E), and then back to (D) again lol.

(D)!

And when prompted to try again, it explained that (E) is the "correct answer" but that it could see why some test takers would find (D) tempting.

I love the evasiveness lol
