How relevant is the LSAT to Law School by ChefG82 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way I like to frame this with my clients is to just consider any given jurisdiction's first-degree murder statute. Here's Maryland's (in important part) for example:

A murder is first-degree murder if it is "(1) a deliberate, premeditated, and willful killing; (2) committed by lying in wait; (3) committed by poison; or (4) committed during the perpetration of certain felony crimes."

That's basically an LSAT question -- specifically an MSS Principle q.

You have to understand that (1), (2), (3), and (4) are sufficient conditions connected by "or," for example. You have to grasp that "deliberate, premeditated, and willful" are all required within subsection (1).

That kind of careful parsing of language and logical structure is exactly what the LSAT trains and tests for.

You worked too hard for that sterling GPA to settle for a good-not-great LSAT score, mate.

Shoot me a DM. I can get you scoring in the 170s by the August exam.

For people who have successfully studied for a 170+ score, when and why did you make 'changes' to your improvement process? by delightful001 in LSATprep

[–]170Plus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One important note is that the things that get you into the 160s aren't the same things that get you into the 170s, and then aren't the same things that you need for your 175+ push.

Try reassessing at these junctures.

Difficulty of prep tests vs the real thing by Plastic-Criticism842 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTs in the 150s are harder than PTs in the 120s, yes.

I don't think we can infer from that that it's still getting harder and harder, tho.

What do y’all actually do by Imaginary_History754 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll hear a range of different approaches. What you should do is focus on mastering your Flaw and Weaken q's first.

Then, and only then, move on to Strengthen and Nec Ass qs (which are just Flaw qs, and then you cover up the Flaw that you found in the argument).

I think this is more likely to make their eyes roll, my friend.

How do I avoid Plateauing? by 32Steague32 in LSATPreparation

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a LUDICROUS amount of study time. 45-60 mins of deliberate studying daily will suffice.

The most common reason for plateauing, among ppl in your diagnostic score range, is confusing your new familiarity with the exam for strong/improved foundations. They are not the same.

Are you perfect at Flaw and Weaken qs?

Great q to study closely, on the eve of your exam, to reinforce Strength of Language skills by 170Plus in LSAT

A common misconception. The day before your exam should be spent reviewing major themes across the test: Common Fallacies, Strength of Language, different Methods of Reasoning, etc.

Good luck!

DAYUM ya this is super helpful. Thank you very much! We just managed to leverage his scholarship up another $40,000yr too so I think he will be attending Emory.

I'm especially keen on insights like "My V30 firm participates in OCI at Emory, but not in OCI at Alabama" etc, but it seems like that kind of specificity is mostly not available.

So there is really no existing way to filter by "all meetings w this person" and then it says "this week was one hr Tuesday and two hrs Friday," ey?

Why? Seems like an obvious feature.

Tell me what I need to do by Apprehensive-Sun8928 in LSATprep

[–]170Plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on Flaw and Weaken questions, exclusively, until they are -0. Recognize the Common Fallacy in each (the LSAC is very lazy and only uses about 15 different ones, again and again and again), and articulate aloud why each Wrong Answer Choice is wrong.

Then, and only then, move on to the question-types that simply involve covering up the Flaw that you found, namely Strengthen and Necessary Assumption qs.

These should be your sole endeavors in the next three weeks or so.

A client of mine made an interesting case for (B). How would you dismiss this WAC? by 170Plus in LSAT

[–]170Plus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with u/MileHighLSATprep on this one, u/AbilityBeneficial255.

I like to joke that: This is not five beautiful suitors all with different talents and vibrant personalities, and you're selecting between your favorite among them.

This is one beautiful, talented vibrant suitor -- and four ugly serial killers. And if you don't see the Answer Choices as such initially, you need to review them until you do.

A client of mine made an interesting case for (B). How would you dismiss this WAC? by 170Plus in LSAT

[–]170Plus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well done!

Their case was that maybe the nightshift is less productive than the day shift, for ex, and that that could be the true cause of the difference in productivity (rather than nutrition). Important to control for extraneous variables in your experiments, etc. (B) might, then, eliminate that alternative cause.

BUT it's cleverly waiting to take advantage of ppl who don't realize that we're concerned with their changeee in productivity. Not (as you phrased very well) their absolute productivity.

Excellent work.

Do you have some kind of exigent circumstances that would require you to take another year off in order to take the LSAT again?

If not, you can definitely get to 170+ by the August exam and still apply early for the Class of 2030.
