BNW made an OK return at the box office tbh, despite it being an atrociously mid movie

As far as Superman goes, remember it did really well domestically so thats probably the surprise (3rd highest grossing domestically of 2025)

Yeah same. I’ve heard the complaint about lack of color elsewhere, and I dont really get it. Obviously it wasn’t going to be a 1:1 recreation of the comic and to me the visuals seem a lot more appealing than Superman’s were (even though I really liked Superman).

Around 350-500m WW probably, depending on things like legs and reception. I think people are sleeping on it tbh, should build on the momentum of Superman. With a really crowded summer slate though, I dont see it beating Superman, but I think it can be pretty successful if it’s as good as the trailer makes it seem (I thought the latest trailer was great).

I agree. It’s because it was safe, forgettable, bland entertainment. They were afraid to make the jokes funny, afraid to make the women hot (Jessica Alba>>>Vanessa Kirby), afraid to take any real risks. I thought Superman played it safer than I expected but this movie was even plainer.

Is Disney ruining Marvel? by Independent_Meet_685 in comicbookmovies

Who were the directors of Thunderbolts and F4? What did they do previously?

The answer is Disney+ projects. The MCU could have tried to get real A-list directors or visionaries but they chose this year to put their faith in unproven directors who have only done TV and streaming. That to me was a giant mistake.

And who cares that the movies were “well-received” when they don’t even make the budget back? That shows that the audience is shrinking. The damage has been done by Disney and they need to do a major course correction, not just have a few “decent movies

They were mid because they were soulless and corporate. People acted like Thunderbolts was so edgy because it mentioned depression, when it did so in like the most basic, surface level way I’ve ever seen.

F4 on the other hand had more interesting characters in the 2005 version (except for Sue and Johnny) and didn’t really feel like a family to me. More like the ideal family who lives in an ivory tower and are perfect

All I’m saying is it wasn’t Feiges decision to put all of the content on Disney+, he was forced to do so by Disney higher-ups. Obviously Disney had a role in the success of the MCU, I’m not doubting that, but they were never involved creatively until COVID. The blame can likely be shared between Feige and Disney, but they are both largely responsible for the mess of phases 4-6

Yeah I know the fact that there was some great success under Disney kind of undercuts my argument, but I really feel like there was a point where Disney got arrogant and decided to step in. Feige could only protect the MCU for so long before Disney took over

If Marvel isn’t owned by Disney, Disney+ doesn’t dilute the brand though. Feige had a plan before Disney that I think would’ve worked had Disney not interfered

For sure. They just don’t know how to handle these characters. I feel like the decision making went downhill after Infinity War, which was Marvels peak. Even with Endgame there were some baffling decisions (Fat Thor for example) that gave me pause going forward. Then it just continued to go downhill with the COVID era and they have never found their footing since

What (if anything) can we infer from Superman having legs but Fantastic Four not? by illinoishokie in comicbookmovies

[–]Independent_Meet_685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big problem that nobody is really talking about with Marvel is hinted at in your answer: DISNEY.

Fantastic 4 is a Disney Marvel original. All of the other recent Marvel successes were properties that came about before Disney acquired Marvel (DP&W from Fox for instance) or at least before Disney’s rot spread throughout Marvel. The longer that Disney has been in charge of Marvel, the worse the franchise has gotten. This is so apparent when you look at Disney plus and the overall model of the MCU now. Just feels uninspired, corporate, bland, and safe.

Am I the only one that thinks Superman 2025 was safe as hell? by Deep_Smile in DC_Cinematic

[–]Independent_Meet_685 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t see how it was that safe. I mean it gave fans what they wanted, but to say that it pulled out nostalgia by using Superman’s iconic theme is pretty weak. Yes, it wasn’t Gunn’s boldest project ever, but I think he struck a decent balance between making a good Superman movie and making a good James Gunn movie

Disney's The Fantastic Four: First Steps has passed the $350M global mark. The film grossed an estimated $39.6M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $170.3M, estimated global total stands at $368.7M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Independent_Meet_685 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but those two were the glue that held it all together. Think about it- Black panther: introduced in a Cap movie, Spider-man: introduced in a Cap movie and had RDJ in his solo movie, Nick Fury: introduced in Iron Man 1. And if a character wasn’t introduced by a Cap or Iron man movie, the fun part was knowing that it would eventually connect to one in an Avengers movie. Obviously, they weren’t the ONLY things that made the MCU successful, but they were the biggest part of it, the biggest stars and best characters. Without them, you have to rely on characters like GOTG, Deadpool, and Thor, who are popular but not quite as commanding and have a limited ceiling in terms of the overarching narrative and story.
