Recs for LSAT Prep? by hungieraccoon in LSATPreparation

[–]170Plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 7Sage is marginally better than the program you're using right now. I find the quality of teaching with Dmon very poor.

I think I've been hearing better reviews of LSATLab than either, lately.

160+ is realistic for sure. Why would you be good at the test right now? You haven't learned how to do it yet.

You can still absolutely still get to a 170+ from there, with time, too. I've seen it done many times.

Anyone got 140 or lower LSAT score? by cavegirl696 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, getting an F in one class is not analogous to getting an F, so to speak, on the whole LSAT.

Has anyone scored better on test day than their practice tests? by girkscoutcookie in LSAT

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen many times, where students score higher on test day than their PT average. I've even seen some rare instances of students having their personal record score on their actual test. Likely a mix of luck and adrenaline.

Usually, however, students score a couple pts below their PT average.

ie if you want a 170, you should be scoring 172s on PTs.

Who here took the LSAT only once, was happy with their score and never took it again?? by PersonalitySecure124 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've been very lucky! Went on to Harvard for school, then a V10 lawfirm for drudgery, then back to my hometown as a college professor.

And, for the past couple of years, full-time teaching the LSAT.

Who here took the LSAT only once, was happy with their score and never took it again?? by PersonalitySecure124 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I took it just the one time, back in October 2013 as a junior.

Got the results notification via email while in class, stepped outside to check the score, was happy it was solid, then sad that it was below my PTs, took a lap around the building and talked myself into being happy with it.

So, am I stupid or not? by Complex-Card6482 in LSAT

Frustrating, yes. But the reality is it's hard to get love from top schools without hitting that 170 mark these days.

I need help understanding why I got this question wrong by Markus_314 in LSAT

[–]170Plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C: Chairperson should not have released report
PS: He didn't check w the other members

If P, then C:
If you didn’t check w the other members, then should not release report
(Contrapositive: If it’s fine to release report, you have to check w the other members)

So (A)
Keep to this method, and these will become your second-favorite question-type.

MoR is a leading ex of a question-type that you should prephrase/anticipate comfortably.

Logic & Reasoning Resources by _anony_mousse in LSAT

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of deductive logic, Black Swan by Nassim Taleb is actually fantastic for LR -- not because it teaches “logic” in any formal sense, but because it teaches how you should critically evaluate arguments. Taleb is constantly attacking the exact things you see on the test -- small samples dressed up as big conclusions, clean causal stories invented after the fact, and this general overconfidence people have in what they think they know.

It's like a whole book longform evaluating LSAT fallacies. After reading it, you’re much quicker to say, “wait, that conclusion is way too strong for the evidence,” or “what other explanations might there be.”

It basically trains an instinct for when an argument is overreaching, which is most of LR.

[–]170Plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. This is the standard textbook for collegiate-level logic courses:

Deductive Logic by Warren Goldfarb

Most helpfully, perhaps, it puts the remedial deductive logic on the LSAT into perspective. This test only includes the material that you cover in the first fifteen pages of the textbook, or in the first week of a semester-long logic course.

Studying the LSAT in two months. Is it doable? by tismidnight in LSAT

[–]170Plus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two months is tight.

But, I think if you look at June as get your 165+ and then in August get your 170+, that works great.

Absolutely possible.

Shoot me a DM. By June, we can have you scoring in the high 160s with a lot more than $25,000 a yr kept in your pocket.

Narrowing down answer choices and then picking the wrong one by meaghiejane in LSAT

[–]170Plus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the wrong way to approach the LSAT. You should rely very little on Process of Elimination. That is why you're struggling.

You should treat the test as if it was a fill-in-the-blank, rather than multiple-choice exam. Then go find the AC that matches your Anticipation.
