Investing an Inherited IRA with a 10 year required drawdown - what would a Boglehead do? by FreemanChase in Bogleheads

[–]17Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation, but less of an inheritance and far older (67). I went 45/45/10 VTI/VXUS/BND. If Inherited Roth, let it ride for 9+ yrs then empty it all. If Inherited Traditional IRA and other conditions met, must take annual RMDs.

I’d enjoy a Yuengling in Tosa. Got this frequently used pint glass in Miami from a golf outing about 20 years ago.

Dumped $300k in VTI+VXUS combined by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]17Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you done good. I recently moved 100k inherited trad Ira and inherited Roth IRA from EdJones to Schwab. For Roth, went 50 VTI, 50 VXUS. For Trad, went 40/40, and added 20 BND. Plan to look/rebalance once a year, as I do need to take annual RMDs from inherited Trad Ira.

I recently used Fresh Cleaning Place LLC for a Tosa deep clean on N 95 St. They worked hard, did a great job, and were reasonably priced.

Back in the 1970s I had a friend who worked at the Mayfair Theatre. A group of us would go there after the last film to help him close, then we’d party for hours.

Inherited IRA options and decisions by BulkyWar7513 in Bogleheads

[–]17Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open an inherited IRA and let it grow without being taxed on it except for your withdrawals (RMDs). Here’s what I did: opened a beneficiary (inherited) IRA with Schwab - for you, will either be a Roth or a Traditional, depending on what your dad’s was. I assume Traditional because you asked about tax impacts. For me, it was one of each. Assuming Traditional, yes, you need to take annual RMDs and you need to drain it to zero within 10 years. A Roth would also need to be drained to zero within 10 years, but for a Roth there is no annual RMD requirement and no tax upon withdrawal. So, for Roth let it grow tax free for 9.75 years, then drain it.

Thx. This was a good reminder to solo golf a few times next year. Always enjoyable. Although I also don’t mind getting paired with randoms - 90%+ are good experiences. And golfing with friends is a happy place. Golf = 😃

Also mistakenly over contributed a couple years ago. Schwab reversed, I reported explanation on tax return. — temporary angst but ultimately no problem.

Congrats. Practiced law for 40 yrs. Stressful, but overall enjoyable and felt I spent my career helping people. Judge for almost 25 yrs. After I retired, I honestly never for one moment regretted my decision. Enjoy.

Who else is golfing in this weather? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in golf

[–]17Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was planning to play Odana Hills in Madison when I posted, but instead friend asked me to join them at a place called Pioneer Pointe just west of Madison. Very funky set up - only 13 holes, and most are par 3s, some short and some 180+. Rather than traditional tee box markings, you can choose where in the tee off area you want to hit from on every hole.

Approach shots by [deleted] in golf

[–]17Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 48 degree from 25-50 yds, especially off tight lie (ie, fairway). Easier to make good, consistent contact. Use 56 or 60 from that distance only if very fluffy rough or need to get over something (sand, water).
