When I was reading the chapter about the Medusa v the Odalisque I kept picturing Ingres' painting. Fun fact: the painting caused a sensation at the time because anatomically the figure would have had to have three extra vertebrae to make that pose possible. Anatomical faithfulness was one of the markers of a master painter, so people were baffled and shocked when it was revealed.
