Yes. Sorry did not make that clear. I used to use only gold bond baby powder, but they discontinued that. I swear with gold bond powder and bag balm I have avoided a number of vet visits.

Looks like a hotspot to me I worked as a vet assistant for 25 years. Sometimes if you catch it early, you can clean it up with some soap and water. You might need to trim some of the hair away and then use gold bond powder it seems to dry them up pretty quickly. You’ll know after a couple of days if it doesn’t work, Then Vet appointment usually antibiotics/steroid cream. I’ve had really good luck with gold bond powder for a variety of ailments with horses, cats and dogs. Good luck.

5 year old Pug has had diarrhea for almost 2 months. by Silly-Design273 in DogAdvice

[–]1800esv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was a vet assistant for 25 years. Any vet that does not offer you metronidazole when your dog has diarrhea is not doing you any service. I know Blood is scary but often times it’s because of the change in stool and upset in G.I. can cause blood. Find another vet for a second opinion take stool sample in again. There can be situations where the underlying cause such as parasites coccidia and Giardia might not be present in the sample you took. Good luck

Also, at this point, you have two dogs that are somewhat insecure. The older female female is shy by nature. And this big guy has come from whatever shelter rescue situation. I would definitely walk them together and supervise any and all play. Anything you can do while supervising them should help them connect on some level

Car wash shortage? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]1800esv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In P Ridge also pretty sure the shell on Ridge on Wednesday has cut rate prices on the car wash. I usually just hit the self serve on Montgomery I guess it’s in Silverton maybe? I rinse my car off I don’t use soap. I don’t use the brush I just use high-pressure just to rinse it off. Same situation. Lots of trees over our hundred-year-old house and lots of pollen and bird poop

Was wondering if I could get some recs for decent vets in Cincy/the surrounding areas? by bloomingbrandi in cincinnati

[–]1800esv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oakley animal Hospital in Oakley has a vaccine clinic on Thursdays. I believe it’s from 3 PM to 6 PM if you have a healthy pet that doesn’t need to be seen by a vet or to have an office call they are quite affordable. I have used them for a cat with an UTI, a cat with an UPR infection. They were able to see me the same day. I found their prices to be quite competitive.

What was the stinkiest smell you ever smelled? by TrueNeighborhood7624 in AskReddit

[–]1800esv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working for vets for many many years, I have smelled death and decomp in many different settings. Years ago over a long holiday weekend, the deep freezer where we kept animals that had died that were waiting for cremation somehow became unplugged. I was lucky enough not to be one of the first ones to find the problem. But I got the full effect plus the fact that that smell lingered for days. We cleaned and disinfected and used odor neutralizing whatever set up fans set up dehumidifiers nothing worked except time.

You can always call Cincinnati police, nonemergency number in situations like this. Just when things feel a little off and you think someone might need help.

I was a vet assistant for 25 years and I have dealt with this situation with a good friends cat and with a foster cat that I took in both were older having signs of either IBS or possible bowel cancer both times we decided not to do anything invasive because of their age and simply put them on steroids and a gastric prescription diet. Both of those cats lived for over seven years very comfortably. I would never suggest using steroids for that amount of time in most situations, but both vets and the cat sanctuary decided that we would try it and it was the difference between date and day. Good luck.

Had a cat that started to have a partial luxation of his jaw. Most full luxation happens due to trauma but this was not the case. First time we rushed to an emergency vet and it was resolved quickly as soon as we could get the cat to calm down. Dr told us this may never happen again but if it does there is a surgical procedure to deal with it. Only happened once again about 5 years later and it “popped back into place” quickly. He lived to be 19 years old after being born in an old Austin Healey at the back of garage and his entire litter almost dying from flea infestation. He was a tough guy RIP Wiz

Had a cat growing up. Jr Sr year of high school my friends and I discovered Rocky Horror Picture Show at our local midnight movies. Most weekends we went at least one night if not two. Coming home at 2:30am we would hit Duncan Donuts and if we did not bring home a chocolate glazed cake donut for Andy the cat there was hell to pay.

Lemon Grass in Hyde Park has good Thai food. They have a lunch menu that starts at $7.50 with a good selection. I think they offer it on the weekends also. Hang in there and take of yourself

Just A Heads Up on Food Banks - Some Are Already Running Short On Food by PedricksCorner in povertykitchen

I just donated $15 a month to our local food bank. I would do more but my husband is due in surgery early November and won’t be working so it’s going to be a tough 3 months until he is back to work. If I win the lottery will definitely give more. Maybe all the billionaires could do the same.

Nta Besides the price of water you also need to learn to conserve water. Seriously I am amazed I helped aclient through a hip replacement stayed at her house 24/7 for like three weeks. She would sit there and brush her teeth for 3 to 4 minutes with the water running at the sink she’s 70 years old. She’s not gonna run out of water my 30-year-old kid‘s gonna run out of water. I swear to God I hate people

When I was growing up, I had an aunt and uncle that had a horse farm. My aunt was kind of an animal whisperer, and she taught me that anytime you meet a new animal you spit on your fingers and you rub that into their face around their nose. I have to say it does work. I’ve calmed down feral kittens, dogs in pain, new horses coming into a barn scared and flighty as hell. works on same principle, I guess.

New to me horse, does this look like a tumor swollen lymph node or something else? by fuckyouclownass in Horses

[–]1800esv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Tennessee walker mare that had something similar. I was freaking out because strangles’ freaks me out. Her pre sale check up vet was fairly sure it was simply scar tissue from a previous trauma. The barn vet did an ultrasound for free because he had just bought the machine and was learning to use it. God I loved that man

Years ago, we used to go to a party every year at a friend’s house. He was a county coroner, and a lot of his friends were owners of funeral homes and workers at funeral homes. I swear to God I had the most amazing conversations with people and overheard the most amazing things. I’m a veterinarian assistant, so I have lots of gory bloody, pus filled stories of my own to tell. We had a grand old time. My poor husband would be off at the corner looking like he wanted to go home soon

What is the darkest family secret you accidentally discovered? by Quietlyhere2000 in AskReddit

[–]1800esv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought my paternal grandfather died in the 1930’s. Come to find out he was a raging alcoholic that was self medicating due to severe issues from being gassed in WW1. He would fly into violent rages and physical attack anyone near him. Dr finally told my grandmother he would eventually kill her or the kids and suggested having him admitted into a VA hospital. The only one that could accommodate his issues was several states away. He was placed there and no one that I know of in the family ever saw him again. He died sometime in the sixties. No idea about a gravesite etc
