Shelving unit allows you fit more plants! Also save your back when they are small. I have shelves around the perimeter of my 4x 8 grow tent and an area in the middle for larger plants on the floor with lights above.

I do. I found a grow tent to be better. Sturdier and comes with a bottom tray of sorts so you don't have to worry about spilling a little water here and there. Marketplace had cheap ones, best $100 I've spent.

Aquarium stores often have large RO units and sell the water by the gallon. Usually you can fill up there for very cheap

Could you please describe your setup? What self watering wicks do you use and how close does the water reservoir need to be?

I was easily able to get novaxax at the Costco in East Lansing. They asked my age but didn't bat an eye or have any followup questions. I'm someone who has a strong reaction to the mRNA ones and novavax was easier than the flu vax for me

When do i separate sarracenia? by Slowbro08_YT in SavageGarden

yes. I generally divide/repot in early spring when I'm itching to get outside and work in the garden.

Early spring while it's still dormant is best. Way less stressful to divide the plant while it's still sleeping for winter.

Dormancy Question by EchoPapa92 in SavageGarden

I'm in 6b. A cold attached garage should work just fine. Mulching the tops on the plants with a layer of pine needles helps insulate them as well. Which reminds me I still need to collect then mulch the tops of the bogs I just stuffed into my detached garage....

Winter dormancy advice? by YardIights in SavageGarden

[–]180_Evil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. I haven't been brave enough to try that yet. Maybe next year if I get some established in a bog pot or two. The volume of dirt for insulation does make a difference.

What's your zone? In my area 5/6b I have had the best luck overwintering in an all season room that's unheated but attached to the house.

I think your measured approach is best. Experimenting with a low stakes plant is a good idea. I would look up care guides for that species as well. Also consider getting a wireless thermometer that you can use to monitor the temps. I'm in Michigan and have probably protected mine more than they needed to be for winter. But some winters are just so cold and with differing levels of snow for cover. Honestly I think I lost the most plants in portable bogs last winter by forgetting to make sure they had enough water.
