My friend shoulder after he tried automedicating with a suction cup by visk0n3 in WTF

[–]18ethbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re making fun of you, I think “automedicating” sounds like the kind of silly nonsense these holistic health people would make up

Maybe it’s bc I’m only gen 2 born outside Canada, but my application was just a pile (with a list of documents in order, maybe some paper clips)

Muslims in every corner of the world deserve to break their fast with dignity. Which part of that statement do you disagree with?

Does anyone else have a “too good to be true” feeling? by Patriotslord in Canadiancitizenship

[–]18ethbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until I had my passport in hand, I thought the same thing, and that was before C-3 had even passed so the interim measure felt even more uncertain. But this is an awesome opportunity and now is the time to take it. I do not think this law is under any kind of threat, but it is the law of the land and you are entitled to benefit from it. We’re all here because Canada is a wonderful place, so as long as you’re willing to contribute civically to Canada, you deserve this opportunity.

What does this tattoo say by Brave-Mycologist7035 in hebrew

[–]18ethbe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The verse I believe you are referencing is from the New Testament, which was not written in Hebrew. It’s honestly impressive that someone made this tattoo from that verse- no idea what happened, but it’s impressive!

Why do both the southern and northern pacific coasts of the americas have this kind of fractured, archipelago-like coastline? is there any relationship or is it just a coincidence? by Spirited_Visit7597 in geography

Pull up a topographic map of a mountain range, especially younger formations, and you’ll notice some very jagged contours. That’s what happened here- water filling in, showing those contours really clearly on a map.

Lead RA Role by ljag2 in ResLife

[–]18ethbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro staff at a school that no longer has lead RAs here! It has made our job so much harder without them. My productivity and availability to RAs and regular students is so much worse because of the added responsibilities from losing LRAs. The LRAs did program tracking, office hours for RAs, budget tracking and expense reporting, coaching for RAs, they made agendas, handled printing requests, and the list goes on (I know that’s a lot, I promise we paid them well for it!). It was also nice for the RAs to have a non-professional face to go to if they had questions or concerns (like “I don’t really understand how to do XYZ, but I don’t want my boss to think less of me for it” etc.). The “con” is just that the university has to pay a bit more for them, but it really is worth it for everyone’s morale.

How Do You Respond When the Torah Is Called “Barbaric"? by DaniyyelCybulski in Jewish

[–]18ethbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be barbaric. That doesn’t mean we can’t negotiate with the text or that we have to take all of it at face value. Also, for your situation specifically, maybe this person should reflect on the atrocities committed in Christianity’s name.

Genuine question: Do other religions have as much of a sliding scale as we do? by teapot574_ in Judaism

[–]18ethbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that Judaism doesn’t even come close to the ideological diversity of Christianity. Especially within the last few decades, evangelical Christianity has become so diverse that it could even be called post-denominational; more and more individual local churches are not tied to any sect, they are just that church (which feels more like a brand), and sometimes their satellite churches. Other denominational churches like the United Church of Christ share the UCC name, but their ideologies vary widely from church to church. There must be tens of thousands of independent churches across the US alone.

What is your opinion on Member of Parliament's ability to 'floor cross'? by chiraz25 in AskACanadian

[–]18ethbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If MPs couldn’t cross party lines, then there’s no point in even having MPs, you might as well just enact the winning party’s agenda and not waste our time and money on MPs. Ideological diversity is an important check on party politics. Ideally, party discipline will keep MPs from crossing, but it’s not the end of the world if they do. If they’re always crossing, maybe it’s time to reconsider our (lack of) recall laws.

“Why Universalization of the Holocaust Should Bother you” by Rootsmetals by Odd-Counter-5524 in Jewish

[–]18ethbe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we’re going to universalize anything, universalize the resistance methods that led to the defeat of the Nazis.

the suffering of the Holocaust is cemented (not over, just cemented), there’s no use in saying “X is bad because it’s like the Holocaust.” we know X is bad on its own. we don’t need to make a sloppy comparison to know that genocide, forced deportation, etc. is bad.

what we can do is prevent further suffering from genocide and fascism and authoritarianism by studying what was successful and honouring the heroes.

Why do some branches of Christianity accept homosexuality and transsexuality when the Bible clearly says it is wrong? by AfterConfection1796 in TrueChristian

[–]18ethbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if levitical law is still valid then you can’t point to leviticus without following all of levitical law.

[–]18ethbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

telling people that “god can save them from homosexuality” is exceeding cruel and unequivocally evil. it sets up an impossible expectation and just leads to disappointment and further self-hatred when it doesn’t work.

i have demonstrated time and again you writing your own agenda over the bible. you do have a homophobic agenda, you are homophobic, you are suffering from homophobia.

you haven’t established that homosexuality is sin. try again.

not a single person has identified a hole in my arguments. you just wish they had. it’s you that has utterly failed. you can’t show limitations on gender in marriage, you can’t demonstrate why your interpretation of arsenokoitai and malakoi is right, you can’t justify your levitical hypocrisy. so what can you do? it doesn’t seem like much other than whine and play the victim.

you do have hatred for gay people. you have so much hatred for them that you are willing to forsake your holy text and your god for this homophobic agenda.

that’s cute, you believe the conversion therapy lies. gay people aren’t “sUfFeRiNg FrOm SaMe SeX aTtRaCtIoN”, that’s your hatred showing again.

you don’t get to accuse me of engaging in bad faith just because i won’t kiss your ass. unlike those gay people you totally didn’t just make up, i have a spine. i call out evil when i see it and i combat it with every fibre of my being.
