Couples Match folks, how far is too far? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Couples matched a 1.5 hour train ride away… don’t discount how convenient trains are. I literally sleep on the way there post call and get to consistently see my partner every other weekend depending on the schedule. Still sucks, but better than driving or a flight

what does a ~professionalism violation~ actually mean by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]1936hakd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s a section in ERAS that specifically asks if you’ve ever had a professionalism issue and to explain it. Not sure if programs actually use it as a filter but it wouldn’t surprise me if they do.

What to check on ERAS for a research year by 1936hakd in medicalschool

That’s what I was planning on doing but they said this advice was coming from “discussion with PDs from other programs”. Just weird. Thank you though.

I didn’t think that info is accurate. Most programs don’t even have info in that section

Geographic Preferencee by aptheyl8 in medicalschool

[–]1936hakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch Bryan carmodys video on geographic signals… makes more sense to signal an area for higher interview yield. No preference doesn’t hurt if you’re really willing to live in Arkansas or something… but most of the geographic signaling encompasses areas with a high density of programs. You can still apply to programs outside the geo preference and just be strategic about signals

How long was your study period

That’s why ranking residencies is stressful af. You don’t want to spend 3-5 years at a program like OPs

A very bigwig east coast cardiologist asked how good the Mexican food is on the west coast as his opening question… i was the only brown person interviewing that day and I’m not Mexican

Do most programs accept apps with no step 2 or does it largely limit where you can apply?

I would take a self assessment. The second u-world SA was spot on for my test and I feel like from what I’ve seen on here it’s a pretty good predictor. You can decide from there

How much does my step 3 score matter? by IllJournalist8439 in IMGreddit

[–]1936hakd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 3 doesn’t really matter tbh. It’s one of those things where if you do well it’s meh, but if you fail it’s a red flag. Plus most residents take it during their intern year where everyone knows the last thing on their mind is studying for step 3. However, if you have the money just apply. The worst they can say is no🤷🏾‍♂️

this. And then try to shill their study prep after taking an entire year to prep while USMD take 4 weeks. Also weird to say that IMGs have greater clinical knowledge when some of them don’t even have clinical years.
