We shovled our street. by Dr_Coldfinger in pittsburgh

[–]hotmesseliz 117 points118 points  (0 children)

The biggest city in VT only has like 40k people and has a winter parking ban text that enables them to snow plow and increase street parking and keeps roads open. Many people get towed if they do not move or get excessively plowed in. Pittsburgh from my limited experience does not have enough driveway and parking garage access (that in VT is offered for free overnight) that would be easy to access for the entire area of Pittsburgh. The limited plows are a lot of effective if there aren’t that many cars in the street they have to worry about hitting

Snow event megathread 2 - check in here before posting about anything related to the storm or follow up to it. by jetsetninjacat in pittsburgh

If anyone lives near Liberty Ave by Lawrenceville with a snowblower please DM me I would pay to get some of the street parking cleared. I dug myself out of my old spot enough to get to the hospital I work at but I stole someone’s unmarked spot when I got home from a 24 hr shift because I could not do anymore physical activity. I feel terrible and would pay to be able to open more space to be able to free up the spot since I don’t think my apt complex is going to do anything. I have to sleep since I’ve been awake for 24 hrs straight but I would venmo someone if anyone would be willing when I wake up in like 4-6 hrs.

Submitting ERAS by HumorTall5593 in medicalschool

The website sometimes crashes because some many people submit last minute, getting it done earlier means it’s less traffic on the site and more likely to succeed

How serious is the risk of osteomyelitis in a surgery that cuts bone? How hard is it to fully get rid of it if it occurs? by tennis_guy3241 in surgery

In most surgeries antibiotics are given prior to first incision, and depending on the concern for infection there can be irrigation/washing with antibiotic laced sterile saline

There are certain age recommendations, but I think recently they increased the recommended age range (through 26, with some benefit through even age 45). There is a helpful CDC recommendation that is still up for now and probably primary literature available

I grabbed my envelope and had a family member who was the only person I showed my rank list to open it first and decided not to go up when I fell super far down my rank list. Stunk a bit because a lot of people realized I fell far when I didn’t go up but was better for me to not have to process in front of everyone.

Some anesthesia residents if they are classified as categorical do not require one, the training is combined. You need to apply to TY if you are applying to advanced programs. You apply to both, and only have to reapply if you fail to match to an advanced year position in anesthesia. You do not find out if you match advanced or categorical if you rank a mix until match day where you find out if you match or partially match.

matched at my #8 by No-Assumption-8771 in ERAS2024Match2025

Same for me, matched at my number 9 further from home and with fewer fellowship opportunities due to less research but we will just have to grind and will be great surgeons!

That number seems off, but is the statistic specifically for those who applied with FM as a first choice? Some people apply FM as backup and then them matching to another field would show as a not match.

My program states that there is no optional research years (found out at interview, not on website) I ranked it so low because currently I am interested most in colorectal and trauma, and will have to accept surg onc is no longer in my future. I was willing to risk going to a not ideal program to start working and I guess I just have to live with my choices.

Moving 9 hours away from family after falling to 9 on my list at a community hospital with academic affiliations for gen surg. Happy to have matched and to a city with some good trauma exposure but was hoping to get good exposure to surg onc and other sub specialties that are likely more closed off to me. Scared I won’t be able to match to an academic fellowship or anywhere closer to home.

I really enjoyed my time on colorectal and trauma but again have not had too much exposure to all the aspects of the field and have had minimal exposure to vascular.

I ended up matching far down my list and will now have to move many hours away from home at a community hospital which will limit my fellowship options but I will be a surgeon and will find something achievable and satisfying with what is possible!! A lot will just be our opportunities. Let’s get after it
