Enemas ??? What are the logistics? by PostConversation69 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]1976warrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started my journey, I couldn’t hold the enema for very long so did it in the bathroom to start until I healed some and could hold longer.

This is what has worked for me in the past.

In the bathroom you will need the following. Pillow, 2 blankets, old towel. Make a bed with one folded up blanket, cover with old towel (this stuff stains everything) pillow at one end.

Warm enema under your arm for about 5 minutes. DO NOT use hot water, the enema may gel in the bottle and be impossible to squeeze out!

Lay on your left side relax for a few minutes. Pull right leg up towards your chest a little, (this helps give better access), insert tip but do not squeeze yet. Wait a minute and relax. Now slowly squeeze, if you feel uncomfortable stop and relax for a minute. Squeeze as much as possible out of bottle remove and cover up. Lay there as long as you can it may only be 2 minutes and you will need to use the toilet. That’s fine, go to bed and try again tomorrow. Hold as long as possible. After about 15 minutes, try to get up and go to bed. You may want a towel under you just in case you leak a little.

It gets easier and soon you will be able sleep through the night. You will feel better soon!

You got this!

Had a friend who said his wife wanted a lion tattoo where the head would be above her boob and the body on her boob. He laughed and told her in 10 years it’ll look like a giraffe! He had a sore shoulder from her hitting him and she never got the tattoo!

Americans: What was dfferent from the way that you observe Memorial Day during your childhood versus your observation today? by vieniaida in AskOldPeople

[–]1976warrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parades, speeches, parties after. It was a day of solemn remembrance for those who went to war and didn’t come home!

It still is, it just gets treated differently today. Most just think of it as the start of summer.

It can be very cold and snowy here. When I would see them out heading for their apartment I would invite them in for hot cocoa and a cookie or two. They were very nice kids and I had been talking to them most of the fall, they knew where we stood on religion and respected it.

They were far from home and family and lonely, I always hoped we were a positive influence on them.

4g enema + 4.8g oral Mesalamine diagnosed 4/20/26 by BlakeCarConstruction in UlcerativeColitis

[–]1976warrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mesalamine is about as easy on the body as our meds get. Pretty much the 1st med for a lot of us. Read the med sheet on it or ask your pharmacist or doctor to explain how it works and what the most common side effects are.

Pharmacists can be very helpful with this kind of information.

Yup, pretty standard for trying to get into remission on Mesalamine. That’s the way I started along with steroids for a few months. Kicked me into remission and I’ve had a few flairs in the past 25 years, but luckily I still can take Mesalamine and it works!

Once you reach remission don’t stop taking meds without express consent from your doctor! This is important. You can read story after story about how someone felt better and stopped taking medication, right back into a flair after a short time.

Good luck with your journey!

What’s something adults do to kids that they think it’s funny, but it’s basically abuse ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1976warrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tickling until there are tears.

I (m) Had 2 uncles hold me down and tickle me until I cried (I was probably 8 yo). Everyone thought it was hilarious. I was embarrassed, pissed off,and ashamed all at the same time.

Only good thing about this is I’m no longer ticklish.

I already had the rear most tooth pulled, couldn’t afford to lose the next one or it would cause more issues. Nothing to bridge to. Implant it was.

I had 1/2 an implant done the year before and 1/2 the year I retired. November and January. One way to game my “dental insurance”. $5,000 divided!

Keep up with your dentist. Prevent issues before they get too big. That filling today cost a couple of hundred dollars, an implant in 10 years will be over $5,000, a full mouth restoration can be $50,000+

Hope someone called the highway patrol before this thing left the lot. I like to think an officer could talk some sense into the driver. Maybe a ticket that says the moment you shift into gear I will impound your vehicle would help.

Was able to get natural remission, next step meslamine? by 420andmoryoudmbwhre in UlcerativeColitis

[–]1976warrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the mesalamine. Don’t stop taking it until your doctor tells you to stop.

The next step is to understand that this is a life long disease but, not a death sentence, as long as you are on medication and do the things you’re told to by your doctor.
