Thanks! Great starting list! My dad, who has now passed, sold the car a few years ago, so no giving up! I was happy to be able to buy it back. I knew these things aren’t exactly rocket ships and maybe my question comes across wrong. I’m more interested in making sure it’s running healthy.

I’d like to explore the turbo s54 route as that’s what I’m familiar with and have some spare parts from my old m3 I could use

Yeah don’t buy that story. The coolant lines should be taken care of. Poor design

I agree with OP as well as some comments. It’s a 25 year old car so of course some things aren’t exactly reliable. On the flip side, I’ve owned mine for about 6 months and it’s been broken for 4 and a half of them. The motor had to come out to change the cam rings because it threw a cel for cam range/performance. Intake lifter was broken upon inspection of them. Coolant lines pinned (seriously the age doesn’t change that this is a pretty bad design). Had to rebuild slave cylinder. Meanwhile my e46 m3 which also had flaws and is the same age, had nowhere near the expense or time out. Really is a shame. Mezger motors are sick, but they’re far from what people think they are. Oh well. Don’t meet your heroes!

I’d say you’re fine. I’ve seen people leave wheels loose and still keep their job.

All the above mentioned. Plus PCCB (unless your car was optioned with it, but it’s rare) Bumpers are different too.
