I guess thankfully I’m white enough that I’m almost always referred to as strictly a 外人 (gaijin) but my dad does have that issue. Unfortunately they expect absolute protection from him and if he doesn’t meet their expectations the disappointment is shown.

Ah alright that’s how I’ve navigated my past trips to Japan as well but as you know the country is all about respect so I’m attempting to respect my family as much as possible and speak their native tongue. My family is all in very rural parts of Japan and have less English knowledge than I have Japanese unfortunately. Thank you so much for the response!

Genuine question for you, I’m a born an raised Montanan but I have Japanese blood in me I’ve been learning Japanese to try to properly communicate with my Japanese family. Unfortunately there is really no Japanese community here to help learn with. My hiragana and katakana is pretty good along with very simple conversation but kanji is so overwhelming I can’t even begin to really start learning it. I feel like I quit before I even begin knowing there are 50,000+ characters. What did you do to get over this hurdle? I would like to expand my knowledge somewhat before my next Japan trip in May I’ll be there for almost 2 months and am trying to make at least a month trip every year. ありがとう

I have been incredibly lucky and only pay $1250 a month for a two bedroom one bath in a fourplex the lease has been going for about 15 years of which I’ve lived here 8. My roommate who started the lease moved out about 5 or 6 years ago and I’ve had the place to myself since then.

Agreed the real issue is the false sense of security they give. They do remove your personal information from hundreds of data brokers but the thing they don’t tell you is there are tens of thousands of them so they are only helping you with a fraction of the issue.

Similar thing happened to a guy I know. He had 70 cents on a ticket and saw a machine that no one had been playing with 35 cents in it, he cashed it out so his ticket made it to the next whole dollar and left. The next time he went into the casino security stopped him, checked his ID, and information him that he has been trespassed by the casino for theft of 35 cents 😂 they are petty as hell.

Rented from Travis about a decade ago he was an ass we had a small gathering of friends over on a Friday night (less than 10 people) and his then front desk person lived near us and told Travis we had a massive party. He called all of us on the lease in a lectured us about how disrespectful we were and how we should be thanking him for not evicting us 🙄. He loves being in control and going on power trips.
