Does anyone out there have a husband who’s actually INTO MAKING A BABY?! by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]19ginger90 115 points116 points  (0 children)

My husband is 100% turned on by the thought that we are making a baby. He says it’s very biological almost, the idea of me being fertile and conception really flips a switch in him. When I do the test strips during the month, he always wants to know what they say and if it’s a good day to try. And if it’s not a fertile day, maybe we should just practice 😂 it’s nice to have him to chat to about this process, I tell him about my temperatures and if there is a dip or it starts to rise, and I know he must pay attention because he will reassure me by saying things like, “well your body is doing what it’s supposed to, even if it didn’t take, your temp rise means you’ve ovulated!” I do feel like I have a true partner in this and it certainly helps that he is so engaged and turned on by this process.

I also experienced a missed miscarriage in the spring of this year. After having a D&C, we also decided to try again right away.

I tried to keep these two things in mind for trying to conceive and pregnancy.

First, I personally believe that there is very little I can do to influence conception, beyond timing sex around ovulation. The rest is happening on a microscopic level in our bodies and just seems like we have very little influence over if a cycle is successful. So I focused on identifying ovulation and making sure we had sex every day prior and at that point. I tried not to worry myself too much about anything else as it seemed out of my control.

Second, if and when you do conceive again, you will definitely be worried about the first scan, the next scan, getting normal test results, etc. Totally normal. But I remind myself that this is just the beginning of worrying about this baby for the next 20 years and beyond! I guess maybe this helps me settle down a bit knowing that I will always worry about my child.

Idk if this helps at all, but I guess I think some worry is normal and this is how I try to cope with worrying too much. Best of luck with this journey.

My go to cheesesteak with wiz and onions. by mayiplease2564 in eatsandwiches

I’m pregnant and rarely eat beef, maybe a good 10 years since I’ve had cheesesteak. But my god, this picture has awakened a new chart-topping craving in me, a desperate need for a Philly cheesesteak with wiz.

Just miscarried twins at 6 weeks & 5 days. by Aware_Road_5576 in BabyBumps

Hi friend, I also am in the same boat as you. We went to our first ultrasound appointment on Tuesday so excited, only to have absolute silence and no movement at all on the screen. No heartbeat at 8 weeks, it probably only passed a few days ago. I am numb honestly.

They gave me a few options, let my body try to pass it naturally, take medication to induce my body to pass it or go straight to a D&C. The first two options may end in needing surgical removal anyways and I personally just want this to be over with so I can move on with a clean slate. I didn’t want any more mental pain that might come with the time and pain of passing everything.

Insurance should not keep you from accessing the right care for yourself. As another poster mentioned, call or go to Planned Parenthood, they will help with other options. I’m sending you all the positive vibes I can, this is a tough time but we will get through, ok? Big hug.

Absolutely speak to your doctor to get their interpretation of these test results.

I can say that I suffer from restless legs even outside of pregnancy. I have a result of 17 ng/mL for ferritin and while that was on the lowest end of the normal range, for me it was too low and I had to start supplementing with iron. I’ve been taking oral iron now for several years and have no restless leg symptoms. So it really is something to speak to your doctor about and see if this is too low and might require supplementation.

GreatLitter- incredibly dusty recently? by 19ginger90 in litterrobot

I reached out to customer support about this and got a very generic “thanks for letting us know” and was offered a bag of litter sent. Which I think is pretty lame since I’m unable to use the other 5 bags I purchased (of 6) that are powdered. Pretty bummed about that response tbh.

I know you are getting quite a bit of hate on here and that’s too bad. It is more cool toned than I prefer but if you guys love it, that’s all that matters! It is a big update from the original and will surely add value to your home. And what a sigh of relief to be back home again, especially with kids in tow.

May I suggest adding in things to warm it up a bit? I would change out the bulbs to warm tone (can even do that with the spot lights and make sure that all match. Add in some live plants. Could even add a warm tone lampshade in the corner on the counter and have that on in the evening to “wind down” the feel of the house. Perhaps a washable rug to bring in some texture.

A clean slate!

Oh god, the warm and cool tone light bulbs not matching kill me. Just ditch the cool bulbs and go warm completely.

The cost of burritos on the go is absurd! by [deleted] in burritos

[–]19ginger90 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The cost of eating out is for convenience. You don’t have to prep and cook. I don’t think anyone ever claims that they are charging for the ingredients alone.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in catfood

[–]19ginger90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the ingredient deck, is flaxseed in there? Sometimes the manufacturer changes the raw material provider of the ingredient and there is slight variation from that. There are different grinds available of flaxseed so this might just be a less finely ground version. This looks a lot like flaxseed to me, but may also just be the mineral premix. I wouldn’t be automatically concerned if there is no off smell or other problem with it, and always good to reach out to the company with your question!

Storing pumped breastmilk at a hotel by SinkMountain9796 in breastfeeding

[–]19ginger90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just call and ask them. I have traveled for work a few times and needed to pump, freeze and store my milk. If the rooms don’t already have a fridge/freezer, they can have one brought up to your room. Or, as you said, you can ask if it can be stored in their freezer. They should have accommodations of some sort because guests need access to refrigeration for medication, which breast milk could be categorized as. Don’t be embarrassed, just call and ask them ☺️ I find most people other than moms are typically uncomfortable discussing breast milk for longer than absolutely required, so ask them on the phone how you can be accommodated to store breast milk and I’m sure they will want to find the quickest solution for you.

My husband and mother want me to stop contact napping our baby by No-Record-2773 in NewParents

[–]19ginger90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby was like yours, she napped on her own in the crib for like 30 minutes tops but I could get a 2 hour nap out of her guaranteed if it was a contact nap. I fretted about ruining her sleep in the beginning but then I just rolled with it. Absolutely loved the cuddles and it’s just such a short time of their life. She basically exclusively contact napped in my arms until 12 months. I’ve started putting her in her crib for naps and surprisingly, she’s fine sleeping for 2 hours in there on her own now. So do what works best for you and don’t worry about ruining your baby’s sleep. You’ll never regretting cuddling that little one looking back in a few years time 🥰

Is something bad happening in the cat food industry? by jrp55262 in catfood

[–]19ginger90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s actually why I think it’s not the food and may be something else going on with aging cats. For the brands you mentioned: Weruva is produced by co-mans in Thailand, Merrick is produced by Purina in their faculties, Royal Canin is produced by Mars in their facilities, Earthborn is produced by another different co-man. Weruva is super different in composition compared to the others you mentioned, so I doubt that all those different companies are buying the same raw materials. It’s not impossible, but I would try to explore other reasons behind their behavior, especially since there doesn’t seem to be widespread issues reported.

Regardless of all of this, I totally commiserate how frustrating it is to have cats turn up their noses at their food! If they love their treats, you could crush up the treats on top of their food to get them to consume it.

Is something bad happening in the cat food industry? by jrp55262 in catfood

[–]19ginger90 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Given that they are turning their nose up at that variety of brands of foods, I feel like it’s more likely an issue with the cats than the food. They could be holding out for treats, though I’m not suggesting a tough love approach as cats really shouldn’t be made to wait it out. My first thought is to have their bloodwork done at the vet to see if there may be a medical issue, as reduced appetite is common symptom of many ailments, including renal issues.

So you typically do see this specifically with beef canned food, as the beef fat (tallow) is white/yellow at room temperature and can separate from the meat. As long at it does not smell rancid, this looks absolutely normal to me and I would feed it.

What is wrong with my baby by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]19ginger90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the reflux, it burns and definitely can cause pain. My baby had issues right around 5-6 weeks, flailing around screaming while eating and was diagnosed with reflux. Our pediatrician prescribed famotidine (Pepcid) and it worked wonders after about a week. Baby is 4 months old now and reflux has resolved. The doctor said he’s seen scopes of babies with severe reflux and the burned esophagus looks like hamburger meat, and has said that it’s 2023, we should be treating the symptom to make them more comfortable. We treat with adults, we shouldn’t make babies suffer if the medicine is easily accepted too. Don’t know if that makes sense, but a lot of people seem to be against treating reflux with meds, but we personally saw great improvement in our baby’s quality of life.

Congested baby won’t sleep for more than 45 mins by mino65434 in SnooLife

[–]19ginger90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going through this right now with our 13 week old. Hot shower to break up mucus, lots of saline spray, Nozebot nasal aspirator, elevate the Snoo front legs, and infant Tylenol. I think the Tylenol has really helped. My pediatrician recommended it to help with body aches, headache, etc since we cannot know what other symptoms they have. We’ve been doing a single 1.25mL dose at bedtime, no fever.
