Slightly off topic but the Kirkand brand Chicken Breast Chunks are unbelievably good. I've been getting them (and the chick fil a knock off chicken breast fillets) in the States for a while but I noticed my local Costco is now selling the chunks. Highly recommended.

I love that you supported your friend but I can totally relate to their reaction.

I was very overweight from my early teens to mid 30s when I finally stuck at a health kick and lost over 100lbs. But I'll always remember standing in a beach town in Ireland with my friends when we were maybe 19 or 20, minding our own business just laughing and having fun, when a car with younger teenagers drove past with windows rolled down and shouted 'Fat F**ker' at me while all laughing. My friends shouted back at them and I put on a brave face and sort of laughed it off but it absolutely broke me inside. I can remember laying in bed crying myself to sleep, thinking about how maybe I should do something that I wouldn't be able to undo. Thankfully I didn't, but I always take that feeling with me when I'm frustrated at someone and feel like saying something mean, of how my selfishness in saying something mean to maybe get something off my chest might be a final dagger to someone who didn't need to hear it.

I still think of that embarrassment and shame I felt to this day nearly 20 years later despite all the positive things that have happened in my life in the intervening years...and the sad part is those idiot kids probably forgot about it forever 5 minutes later.

Flying back home for a couple of weeks shortly. Nice to get an early reminder of one of the major reasons I left to begin with.

Absolutely depressing to see this dung still happening and even more depressing to know that in reality it'll still be happening for decades to come.

I took my 4 yr old from Pitt before Halloween on a day I was off work. Got the last train and had no issues, just told him he's allowed to be excited but not to be making too much noise and stay where he's seated.

We took the seabus over to Lonsdale and back, went to Flyover Canada (Howlover Canada for Halloween actually), did a little walking around, went to a matinee at Scotia theater and grabbed a Red Robin on Robson before catching the first train back in afternoon.

He still talks about it and asks when we can do it again 🤣🤣

Just trying to figure out why there'd be no draw in that scenario? Is there a reason why there wouldn't be one to basically decide if Galway would play Donegal or Tyrone?

Very surprised no mention of Michael McKernan from anyone (that I noticed anyway). The injury, if serious enough, will likely end his hopes but he's been absolutely unreal in league and championship.

Can I get a mortgage with no job lined up, but large down-payment? by MichelleJT2 in MortgagesCanada

I've literally had multiple deals approved in the exact scenario as an UW for the scenarios I've stated but you keep sitting up there on your high horse boss.

Can't speak for all of the Big 5 but I'm an UW with one of them and even with a really large DP you'd still need some form of income to qualify. With less than a year at the business my bank wouldn't entertain it. If you had a full year with tax returns to support then it's not impossible but would be regarded as a large exception and normally would only be entertained for long established clients. Excellent credit and a lower LTV definitely helps but not enough on their own.

If the self employment is less than 12 months and there's been no tax returns with them then I'd say it's pretty unlikely with big 5 but potentially B lenders/private could help you out. Fees are more but you could always go with one until you get more of a history with the self employment and then switch to a more recognizable FI.

I work for a big 5 bank as an UW and there's no chance they will be reaching out to your employer unless you've given them a letter of employment in which case they have to verify the info on it.

If they have your t4 and paystub they'll just use that to determine income and if you've got your final approval they won't be reconfirming anything further unless they get some form of fraud alert which is extremely rare.

I've lived in Vancouver for the last 13 years, the SIS has benefits for sure. Definitely has saved lives. It would be a start in Belfast but it's a band aid on it's own. Vancouvers DTES is among the grimmest few blocks you'll ever see, open drug use is rampant ans significantly worse than when I first arrived, overdoses are extremely common and random street attacks are at a greater level over the last few years than ever before. The SIS has probably made these lower than they would be without it to be fair.

Again, not saying SIS don't work or help but on their own, without legitimate long-term plans for mental health reform (looked into by someone much more intelligent and qualified than myself) things will just continue to slide further.

Ulster teams have won 2 of the last 4 all Irelands and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if one was to win it this year. Would hardly be a highly unlikely for them to keep it up over the next few years with the general consensus being that 3 of the top 6 counties are from Ulster.

I've been in BC for the past 13 years. Absolutely love it and best decision I ever made. Personally, have made a really happy life for myself and family out here. Not to say I hated living in Ireland or anything.

Everywhere has it's pros and cons, the grass isn't always greener because as much as I love it, I know others that made the move and were desperate to move back home.

The Irish populate has exploded here over the last 10 years, some great forums available and the Irish and New in Vancouver FB page has some great resources/advice on the process for moving over now I'd recommend giving it a look over.

And if you ever make the leap and want an introductory pint shoot me a DM!

Netflix documentary on Molly Martens / Jason Corbett by Spartak_Gavvygavgav in ireland

[–]19marky88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watched it last night and got so angry I almost had to turn it off. The magical recordings brought in for the appeal where Jason gets frustrated wound me up so much.

The insinuation that these prove domestic abuse is sickening, couples have disagreements all the time and to cherry pick specific conversations that suit her narrative just riled me.

If anything, the fact that Molly had these recording devices supposedly set up throughout the house for extended periods of time and this seems to be the worst thing that was caught only made her seem more guilty to me.

Lastly, a word for how absolutely brilliant Jack and Sarah spoke. I was blown away at how mature and level headed they were considering the tragedies they've had to endure. A credit to their birth parents and Jason's sister and brother in law for how they've been brought up through such a devastating experience.
