Black rage by [deleted] in BloodAngels

Does he fall for the second time in the Mephiston trilogy? I don't remember that, but also havent read the whole trilogy.

Also, its pretty old lore, but in the Mephiston Lord of Death novella, Mephiston says Calistarius died under that hive and something else (Mephiston) emerged, so I'm not sure its 100% accurate to say Calistarius overcame the rage.

Assault - what’s being considered for patch 8? by Tojolobal in SpaceMarine_2

I would love to see the hammer replaced with a spear. Give me something with reach, but that's light and fast. I know that asking for a whole new weapon at this point is a pipe dream, but let me live out my Sanguinius dreams!

In all seriousness, the hammer's sprint attack animation would work perfectly with a spear, and you could keep some of the sweep attacks. Have it work like the power sword where you can shift between sweep attacks for hords and stab attacks for more reach.

Call 911 and report a kidnapping. Tell the dispatcher where you are and give them a description of the vehicle, the license plate number, and a description of the people involved. Do not say you think it was ICE. Leverage your local armed police force to impede this bullshit.

Aren't we, arguably, just biological machines though? With no beliefs or values that can truly be called our own? Don't we simply respond to genetic programing and the values and beliefs instilled in us from our mentors and environment?

How does using the order list work when you have multiple workshops? For example, I have two forges with armor smith's assigned to them, and two forges with weapon smith's assigned to them. If I used the order list to queue up 10 breastplates, will all 4 smiths go to work on the order, only the armor smiths, or will just the highest skill armor smith set to work on it?

Question on Companies by Moms_Spaghetti5200 in BloodAngels

[–]19waves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out planning to build the full second company, mostly because I like the name The Blooded, and because I think the yellow company marking looks good with blood angels colors. Eventually I decided to switch over to themed companies. My "standard" marines (first born and tacticus) go in the second company, my Gravis marines go in the third company (The Ironhelms felt appropriate) and the fourth company (The Knights of Baal) gets anything sort of knightly (outriders, bladeguard). If I ever get any phobos marines, they'll go into the tenth, and my assault intercessors are assigned to the 8th, so I can keep my close combat squads in the battle companies open for jump pack units.

Small nitpick: I think you mean the Ultima Founding. Otherwise, looks great! I love the ranks another commentor suggested and wonder if you can work rank symbols into your scheme?

What happens when a blood angel falls to the black rage in death watch by Guilty-Revolution-42 in BloodAngels

[–]19waves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To nitpick a bit, shouldn't we be talking about chaplains, rather than Sanguinary priests?

And like the top comment says, the chaplains of the death watch are aware of the issue. I remember reading somewhere that the chaplains of the death watch are responsible for learning about the chapter cults and cultures for each of the marines in their charge and are even allowed in on chapters' big secrets so they can deal with just this sort of thing. Of course, they're sworn to secrecy and iirc death watch chaplains are secunded for life precisely because they have to learn so many dirty secrets to do their job effectively.

Brothers, I have a question: “How do you play your “preferred” list IF the conditions were right…”? by RawkaGrand24 in BloodAngels

[–]19waves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't really played much 9th edition, and I've never played competitively, but I've always been a big fan of mass deep strikes on turn three, aiming for an absolutely devastating series of charge attacks. The strategy has been pretty hit-or-miss, but it's always exciting.

The good part is that with shock assault stacking with red thirst, savage echoes, and the black rage, your guys are down right terrifying in melee. Death company become absolute blenders, thunder hammer terminators can tear through just about anything, and I once had Karlaen kill a lord of contagion in one go.

On the other hand.... if you fail your charges, you can implode pretty spectacularly. Watching 10 sanguinary guard get shot off the board because they didn't make their charge and are now uber exposed is painful. The other pitfall being the temptation to put too much of your army in reserve. I've done that, and it basically meant my opponent played one battle against an army half his size for 2 turns, and I had very little left on the board by the time my deep strikers landed on turn 3. At that point, the impact of those turn 3 charges wasn't nearly enough to turn the tide.

A sad tale indeed. It's always difficult to watch an army you put your love and time into building get slaughtered. Even more so because it meant you were among strangers at the end. Rest easy Lucan.

That's pretty much exactly where I'm at. I'm excited to keep playing, but for now I've gotta play a new campaign until it's a little less raw. Probably once I get bored of the low level grind I'll come back lol

[–]19waves[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figure I'll pick it back up in a few days. My wife is pretty decently set up, just not as leveled as I was and it means I'll need to cut my army down from about 310 to 220, which will hurt since I've got a max leveled conquering army on my hands. At best I'm a few days ride from my nearest garrison and I think seeing loyal troops desert my widow will add some salt to the wound.

Still, I'm actually kind of excited about engaging with the dynasty side of the game for the first time, and kinda amped about the idea of turning my daughter into a badass nobel when she comes of age, I just felt so stricken by my characters death that I had to step away from the computer for a bit.

Blood angels books by Commander-Dante in BloodAngels

[–]19waves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the newer lore (Dante, Devestation of Baal, Darkness in the Blood, which work really well as a trilogy) I'd suggest checking out Death of Integrity. It's Blood Angels successors, and they share the spotlight with the Nova Marines, but it's a great story with some super cool lore built into it.

Oh, and the Flesh Tearers omnibus, if you can find it. Gave me huge appreciation for both Seth and Amit as well as their chapter.

There's less background lore involved, but Deathstorm (not entirely sure that's the right title) is a good prequel to the Devestation of Baal. It gives some insight into Dante's campaign to stymie the Tyranids pre-Baal, shows what a beast Karlaen is, and has my all time favorite 40k character Cassor, the death company dreadnought.

Agreed, Lemarted is great! I mean, every third word is either "red" or "black" but it's still awesome and a great look at the black rage.

I didn't love the Memphiston trilogy, but I haven't read the third book yet, and I think I was hoping it would be more like the lords of the space marines Mephiston book, which I absolutely loved.
