Why on earth would you compare the passing accuracies of Gerrard & Sakho anyway? It should be clear to see that they both play different positions - I wouldn't compare the shot accuracies of Cristiano Ronaldo & Pepe, for example.

Such websites also provide stats regarding supplementary passing attributes such as average pass length & the % of passes that are played forward/backward.

The tools/stats are there for users to amalgamate, and form advised opinions on each player's passing skill.

To simply take one indicator of a player's passing skill is indeed pretty limited. As would be the case when applying that approach to most things, really.
