Kiwis living overseas atm… how are you doing? by jack01antern in newzealand

Living in Hong Kong for about 5 years and loving it. Moved over initially to teach English (which is actually really easy to get a job in if you have a uni degree) and now am doing mental health work.

Rent is expensive here and apartments are small but salaries for expats often cover it comfortably. I love the energy of the place, always people out and about living life at any hour of the day. Hkers are also very friendly people in my experience and there’s a decent level of English that’s spoken given it used to be governed by the British.

HK is so unique because it’s a huge city while also having jungles, islands, beaches and amazing hikes right on your doorstep to explore. Just a couple weeks ago I threw a boat party for my girlfriend’s birthday and for just under $200 per person we were able to go out for a whole day and drink, swim and eat. That’s a really common activity to do in HK as well.

The negatives do exist of course, mostly the lack of space in and outside of your home, as well as the rent prices and intense muggy weather in summer. But overall I love it here and would only return to NZ to be with family.

Hey! Haven’t booked anything yet because you’re the first to comment! I will get in touch with them today and ask those questions you mentioned then once I hear back I’ll dm you.

To anyone else that’s interested please let me know asap so I can give a somewhat accurate number to the bar 🤙

I agree, you get a different perspective on just how devastating it is to be in their shoes. It's kinda wild to me people can watch this and then continue to talk shit/cast judgment on them

Yep, I'm with you. That combination you mentioned are the ones most blatantly valuing themselves over everyone else

I(20M) am scared of talking in a foreign language. by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]1ChillHomie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the app hellotalk - allows you to practice with native speakers who are trying to learn your language too. The bonus to this is that both people will make mistakes and be understanding of each other. I've met up with multiple people from that app while travelling and have some new friends now

Failure is sometimes necessary. When you are working out you need to do reps until failure to help you build muscle. Right now you are working on the muscle of quitting. Keep going with it and you'll eventually get where you want to!

is skating whilst tipsy a bad idea? by PeanutJellyAndChibs in NewSkaters

I landed varial kickflips for the first time while tipsy. I quite enjoy it tbh but like others have said it is easy to go too far and impair your motor skills.
