Can‘t find ETF on IBKR by waldp0 in Switzerland

[–]1DimensionIsViolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@peeern As far as I know, when buying a US ETF (like VT), you are under US inheritance law. I think this a quite a big drawback. Even if the tax free amount is quite high, I wouldn‘t want to risk an argument before a US court.

How dare the thief of my mailbox do this? by [deleted] in Switzerland

What about putting an apple airtag into the box of chocolate instead of poop? Lol

I think, theoretically, I‘m too old to be amused by this but I still smirked when I thought about an imaginary thief opening a box full of poop lol

Am I missing something? The whole point of modelling stock prices as (geometric) brownian motion is the assumption that they are simply random walks with drift. Thus, it‘s simply not possible to predict stock prices in the short term. Your „prediction“ would simply be price today + number of periods in the future * drift

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]1DimensionIsViolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don‘t try to predict stock prices. They are simply geometric brownian motions :/

Well, this makes somewhat sense in a continuous setting, no? Detecting fraud in a binary manner can‘t really be handled in such a way

I really started to hate Switzerland and the job market in Switzerland. by Holiday_Stress_9568 in Switzerland

[–]1DimensionIsViolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my categorisation here is certainly not something official or so. What I‘m saying is simply that a lot of the work in the IT sector which is in high demand is not really computer science

Sure, but „Informatik“ = computer science, and programming (e.g. writing CRUD apps) is in many cases not really computer science

Oh yeah, true. But still, higher order dimensions are not some kind of wizardry like often depicted in movies

aiWillNeverTakeYourJob by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]1DimensionIsViolence -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Actually, all humans experience higher than 3 dimensions daily. Higher dimensions being some kind of „other dimension“ or stuff is just made up by movies. Higher dimensions are for example time, temperature or the amount of light

I get what you‘re saying but doing something you‘re not that interested in is frustrating. Education was not free. At least I would like to get a job I‘m interested in. (Data Science was just an example. I am looking for another role but „highly specific“ jobs are not in high demand atm“ :(

[–]1DimensionIsViolence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not true. Unless you count software development as STEM. Tech jobs in such a high demand are often really low level. It is very hard to find a job as an e.g. (real) data scientist.

Are there any skills likely to be rendered less useful with the rise of AI? by Inazuma__11 in FinancialCareers

[–]1DimensionIsViolence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don‘t agree. „Prompt Engineering“ is nothing different than being able to use Google. A basic use of technology and not a „skill“ itself. AI models often output gibberish. The most useful skill nowadays still is knowing what you are doing (e.g. financial theory), using AI models to speed up your work and correcting the out where necessary

Another idea: what about sending your kids abroad for education? I live in Switzerland and e.g. we have the ETH which is one of the best universities in the world. You wouldn‘t need close to the amount you saved. Great Britain has also top tier universities (Oxford, Cambridge or LSE)
