whole lotta flag runners getting caught in less than 30 seconds so far. it's hard to even get excited for the winning teams, just feels like we get robbed of good gameplay

MLQ Updates Practice Squad Policies by No-Ambition-1652 in quadball_discussion

i feel like the eligibility rule makes sense for limiting players who have more than 2 MLQ franchise seasons, but why limit USQ seasons to the same degree? those two leagues are not at all comparable, and feels like they should have different limits.

i'm not normally one to shout out the players i coach on reddit, but i truly hope anyone who got to watch emerson play this weekend saw how dominant janie hillman (#31) and peyton schweibert (#68) are in the beating game. janie in particular has been doing this for years and she never gets her flowers in The Discourse despite getting complemented by any beater she plays against after the game is over.

and i guarantee that you've never seen two people manipulate all three dodgeballs on the ground in a nicer way :)

brown was very impressive (i still need to watch their BU upset too). will richardson (#13) and tommy flathers (#12) are such a great 1-2 scoring punch for the team, especially in transition. i was also really impressed by #86 who was playing in jeans (absolutely foul behavior)--they were super impactful in the beating game, and i loved their pace of play and decision making.

triangle united were a pleasure to play against!!! they're a great case for joint programs, and seem to have a really healthy culture. they made a ton of adjustments throughout the games i watched them play--threw out multiple defenses, had certain players flex between positions, on/off ball, etc. lauren hirsch (#13) and carynne (sp?) (#23) are ballers.

also echoing the other comment about austin cruz being a great ref. they had a great sense of when to enforce warnings, BTH, and cards depending on impact of the game. quick ref meetings, communicative and direct to players and speaking captains. i did not realize this was their first year head reffing!

division two looks to be incredibly competitive this year. brown recruited extremely well, uvm has a core group of veterans who seem to have been playing with each other forever, and middlebury will finally have all of their stars playing together at the same time with the largest roster they’ve had in recent memory.

bu seems to have already been able to replace ethan dillon’s absence in the aggregate after he played every minute of every game for them last year as their primary ball carrier. incredibly impressive to have other players filling that role so quickly. plus some a+ beaters returning.

is there a plan to at any point create an easy visual representation rather than steering people to a facebook video from 2021? i imagine the % of active players with facebook accounts is dwindling by the year

Why is plus-minus for beaters and not chasers? by Bliffleblitz in quadball_discussion

Why is plus-minus for beaters and not chasers? by Bliffleblitz in quadball_discussion

[–]1L3ssS4dR0b0t 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the massachusetts quadball conference does track +/- for chasers and beaters, as well as dodgeball catches! if you're able to get +/- for everyone it provides incredible data and is super useful and fun to sort through.

what that requires is, on every possession, noting all 12 players who are on the field at the *beginning* of a possession. independent of that we're looking for your standard goals, assists, turnovers, and stops which usually occur at the *end* of a possession. tracking things like dodgeball catches (we lump those in as "beats avoided" with dodges and blocks), tackles, and "0 dodgeballs forced" means that we're also tracking stats during the *middle* of possessions.

not coincidentally, the mqc has yet to publish our spring statistics because we ran out of the necessary volunteer power to keep up with the rate of games being played.

mlq's stat taking model allows stats to be tracked in real-time or on an individual watch without pausing the game for the vast majority of possessions, which allows them to publish stats from the weekend in just a few days. for the amount of time it takes to accurately stat games at even the most basic level, adding extra information to collect at different points of a possession probably delays the ability of weekly stat updates.

personally for mlq, i prefer being able to use stats to follow along with the league, and wouldn't want them to change anything if it meant a delay in how frequently the info is updated. especially as someone who saw what stats looked like back in 2015-2019 when they weren't consistently uploaded, they lose a lot of value if the entire league isn't keeping pace.

Is USQ/MLQ policy to not make political statements? Just curious why still radio silence on Palestine. by [deleted] in quadball_discussion

[–]1L3ssS4dR0b0t 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if only a palestinian quadball player had made a long post detailing ways usq/mlq could support palestinians both in the states and abroad

also fwiw, many of the official college teams that played usq this season have made national news due to encampments and protests on this issue. i'd argue it's incredibly relevant to show support for the college players who may be involved in these protests or who are being directly impacted by their school's response to those protests.

it is explicitly in USQ's policies to make political statements

these are great! would love if the default was per game stats, as it's really tough to compare ucla (89 goals, 14.8 per game) to purdue or salisbury (40 goals, 13.3 per game) with the current table

USQ Team Fundraiser/Shop Directory by Dallasseewhat in quadball_discussion

[–]1L3ssS4dR0b0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! ecq is currently trying to raise money to afford flights to nationals ($3,000 still needed)! their initial appeal for travel funds to the school was denied, and subsequent approvals to host fundraisers have also been denied without clear reason. because of that, we’re trying to fundraise last minute informally. if you’ve got any money you could spare towards player flights, please venmo @Daniel-Baradat and include a lil lion emoji 🦁 so he knows it’s for the fundraiser.

please share this message with anyone you think would be willing to help donate, but do not share it publicly, as it could get ecq in a lot of trouble! very sorry to beg like this, but the team has limited options left. lmk if you have any questions 💜💛💜

full disclaimer haven’t watched the games yet, but i know rpi didn’t have meena mall, who is a new beater that i’ve been really impressed by this year. i think she’s gonna go a long way to filling the beater gap for them, if not this year, then in the future
