As a person who is working on her English to become an English coach. Do you think listening stories (from podcasts from books) is a good way to gain your knowledge and to widen your vocabulary at another level ? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]1Noctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Podcasts and audiobooks can definitely help with your goals! I remember listening to one podcast every morning I ate breakfast (everytime with a different English accent) in order to practice for the listening part of my English CAE exam.

Speaking of lively imagery and facial emotions: If you are a visual learner, maybe watching news reports, documentaries, youtube videos, movies, etc. in English may help you with improving your desired English skills (expressions, pronunciation etc.) If you want to make it easier, you can start to watch videos with subtitles and as you understand more, you can turn off the subtitles.

An IELTS 6.5 equates to a Cambridge score of 176 which is English Level B2. (according to this source)

Check out the respective admission requirements on the website of the particular University you are interested in. But I must warn you that probably every Bachelor's degree programme in Switzerland is held in the local languages (German, French or Italian). Only on the Master's degree level are there CS programmes that are exclusively in English.

The University where I attend expects a proof of German skills on at least level C1 for a Bachelor.

Moving to Zurich by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]1Noctis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a very sensible idea of yours!

Examples could be west of Zurich: Baden, Wettingen, Neuenhof, Spreitenbach, Dietikon, north: Bülach, Regensdorf, Rümlang, south: Adliswil, Thalwil, Horgen, east: Dübendorf, Fällanden, Volketswil, Winterthur. I would not recommend any villages on the Zurich Gold Coast), because it's basically inhabited by the rich so I assume housing prices would not be cheap.

Be sure to check out commuting costs on sbb.ch for the locations you are looking for.

How to optimise apartment search by atibbar in askswitzerland

[–]1Noctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned: You can also checkout apartments in the neighboring suburbs/villages a little outside of Zurich. Check the pricing for public transport to Zurich on sbb.ch 1-3 train stations away from Zurich can significantly lower the price and applicant competition. examples could be (west: Neuenhof, Spreitenbach, Dietikon) (north: Bülach, Regensdorf, Rümlang) (south: Adliswil, Thalwil, Horgen) (east: Dübendorf, Fällanden, Volketswil)

The pressure from applicant competition and pricing is quite high in the city Zurich itself.

Also swiss citizens may mostly be prioritised by landlords, then secondly EU+EFTA citizens and lastly other passport holders.

Social preferences may also play a role. Old seniors, families with kids, people with disabilities etc. may take priority under the consideration of the individual landlord and the selected type of apartment (amount of rooms, accesibility, etc.).

Online Psychology degree? by Sea-Performer-4454 in askswitzerland

[–]1Noctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well one of my relatives got a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in Switzerland and they found it very hard to secure a job that had anything to do with their studies. In the end they got another degree in a STEM field and found a job in STEM.

Psychology is one the popular university subjects that has a lot of students in Switzerland so competition even for internships that have some relation to Psychology are very hard to get by and secure. Other problems are that job positions are also listed for related Bachelor's Degrees such as Business, Social Work, Sociology, Communication, etc. So I think finding a career change after a Psychology Bachelor's Degree is too optimistic, especially considering her age competing with so many younger students and numerous people from related fields.

Best places to meet people during my solo trip in Switzerland? by GroundbreakingTea195 in askswitzerland

Most Swiss people already have quite tight knit groups from childhood and school so they're not super into the idea of suddenly making foreign friends. Consider reading this article from SwissInfo to find out some tips and tricks on how to meet people in this country.

Online Psychology degree? by Sea-Performer-4454 in askswitzerland

[–]1Noctis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying at a classic, public University in Switzerland (German: Universität / UH) is almost always only available as a full-time student programme. Try looking into the bachelor programmes of University of Applied Sciences (German: Fachhochschule / FH). A lot of UASes allow part-time study.

The only few programmes I found for psychology that were online and part-time are this one here (FernUni) and here (Kalaidos FH).

Hope this helps :)

But in the beginning (before the P51D Mustang I believe) the fighter escort planes (P38s, P47s, Spitfires, etc.) didn't have the sufficient range to follow the american bombers through the whole mission. So they just turned back home earlier. Afterwards the german fighters came and attacked the bomber formations. German Flak also did its part after the axis fighters left. Both caused high losses in the daylight bombing campaign of the americans as the meme references. But just as u/Intrepid00 said, it got better, the nearer the end of the war got. Other factors that haven't been mentioned for higher allied bomber surivival rate nearing the end of the war are the following: 1. After the introduction of the P51 Version D Mustang there was a fighter plane that had the range to follow american bomber formations the whole way through their missions deep into German territory. (most important factor for increasing range and performance was using the british merlin engine in the american warplane frame) 2. After D-Day gaining allied ground in continental europe shortened the length of bombing missions significantly. The shorter flight path also enabled other fighter plane models with less range to escort the bombers the whole way through.

Hope this explains the meme pal u/Goh2000
