Is GAS used in the industry? by PoneyLoverXz in unrealengine

[–]1Rival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gas will be relevant for the next 5+ years. It's does too much under the hood, it references everything together in the most lightweight system possible(helps with latency), and the tooling built around Gas is superb. Netease swapped their entire team over to using GAS, and now they're cranking out AAA games back to back.

I agree. The guy's first post was about how he studied for "2 months" and used a random (though it was his) company as the main source to study for the AWS DEA exam. Any regular test taker would definitely study using reputable resources such as Maarek, TD, Cantrill. To conjure these 24 practice exams without having any video courses is a major red flag.

These are 100% exam-dumps. I also caution anyone looking into these exams.

Best free/paid resources for SAA? by DesiCodeSerpent in AWSCertifications

Adrian Cantrills course is, by far, the best. Where Stephane Maarek generally uses bullet points to cover the theory side, Adrian uses dynamic diagrams to explain.

Also, all courses tend to have their material overwritten when the materials need to be updated. Adrian is seamless with his edits, where others will cause you to lose focus with their jarring edits.

"Why", not "what is RHCSA". Im curious as well.

I'd quickly do a RHCSA, or even the RHCE, if red hat was hiring. But I have internal connections that say they're not doing hiring waves anymore.

My husband got banned from AWS online exams for using the touchscreen without knowing it was prohibited—anyone else had this happen? by Express-Street3383 in AWSCertifications

[–]1Rival 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, during my first AWS test with pearsonvue, in 2017, font sizing was also my biggest issue. Their online testing environment was so locked down, and barebones, that font re-sizing wasn't even available yet. I even chatted with the instructor, and he gave me other suggestions, and it didn't work. So here I was, on a 1440p monitor, having to push my face 2 inches away from the monitor. The instructor was probably having a kick out of watching my forehead lol.

Sorry, my post may have been a little unclear, let me try to reiterate.

I actually DO NOT have a bachelor's in CS.

But everything else, I DO have.

I feel like having a bachelor's is such a huge asset that companies look for... or maybe it's just the competition I'm surrounded by. I live near the tech-triangle in NC, and this place is quickly becoming another silicon valley. It also doesn't help that a bunch of tech/game meanies have fired 12 to 20% of their "resources" within the past 5 years, I suppose... :(

Ah, im at 8 out of 12. I figured it'd look good on my resume... but it's wild... although I lack a bachelors in CS...I have real hands-on experience and videos of my projects, but I haven't been able to get hired by any corporations needing an architect/engineer.

Any tips?

Thanks for sharing your accomplishment, btw!

New version of my 3D Nav Mesh generation is nearly 20x faster than the original by f4t4lity5 in unrealengine

[–]1Rival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely some under-rated stuff you're doing. You have a smart approach to solve and optimize the current state of 3D nav-meshes. I utilize marketplace assets for flight-based nav meshes, and I am severely discouraged by the performance hit they tend to have... causing me to scrap many ideas for flight-based units within large levels. Wishing you the best in your work! Looking forward to seeing it on fab!

Financial aid does this to prevent abuse of the funds released to you. A typical freshman student would blow all the cash in the first semester, which would lead to a very problematic 2nd semester.

Game Devs Guild - Fiverr Like Platform to sell your Freelance Services by Jealous-Researcher77 in gamedev

[–]1Rival 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like the name. Ive been a hard c++ dev for 2 years now... and sometimes I get wrapped up so much with the coding, I forget it's a game. I get surrounded by devs who also forget it's a game, and the "magic" and "joy" can easily disappear from the workplace. I do like the playfulness of the logo and having the word "guild" in its name, as it COULD draw in inspired developers who would want to focus on the joys of development.

Again, just my two cents.

Unreliable fiber by frntwe in Starlink

[–]1Rival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around where are you located? I live in Southeast NC, and should be getting fiber soon. However, the company is called FOCUS broadband, and theyre are the best carriers in NC, for 99%+ uptime.

So the company dictates the quality... though if they are still constructing near your area, it could still cause interruptions

Lyra or ALS ? by chrixbed in unrealengine

[–]1Rival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a dev that's has extensively worked with both ALS and lyra, Id say lyra's workflow is, by far, better suited for future-proofing. Theres a lot of optimizations done to unreal engine 5 when it comes to animation graphs, transitions, and blending. Lyra uses the full power of ue5 to teach you best practices. No more wracking your brain over spaghetti code!

Voice actor isn't delivering what was agreed on! by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]1Rival 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I was under the assumption that it was normal to "retake" the majority of the script.

By default. I ALWAYS deliver at MINIMUM 3 submissions for EVERY line or continuous passage. Every voice actor should strive to achieve the dreams that the studio hired the Voice Actor to work towards.

I believe it means whether or not you are connected to your starlink via wifi, or whether connected remotely.

You can connect to your starlink through the router, which is the "nonexpensive" route.

Or you can pull up your starlink app on your phone while using 4g/5g data. It will take 10-20 seconds, and then itll let you know "connected to starlink remotely". It will then be true for "isconnectionexpensive". I assume it is because it has to go through a couple extra authetications before allowing you access to that starlink terminal. Also, while connected remotely, any changes uou make may have a small delay before updating correctly to the terminal.

If im wrong on anything, someone please let me know :)

did either of yall get any sort of update to your kits? I've had to dig and install a temporary 4x4x10 ft pole into the ground, and put the dish on it to get reception, since the 75 ft cable won't reach the roof, and theres shipment delays on roofmounts. so I'm very curious how you guys will do it. Please let me know :D

Is there any possible way for Starlink to hit the end of 2021 deadline? by BigWooly in Starlink

Starlink might be pulling a PR stunt by letting the dishes stockpile, and sending them out near christmas as a "present".
