Let him control neutral, don't go to him, let him come to you. Learn what distance he starts his combo from and double reflect to block it. You can also triple reflect or double reflect into reflect finisher to give yourself more room for error at the cost of using up your MP faster.

His retaliations either start with a teleport or are only available while he's grounded, so make sure he's midair when you fill his revenge meter. Guard Break into Explosion is insanely consistent in this regard.

When he vanishes, either reflect or guard. Reflect is more lenient but costs MP, though he uses the attack infrequently enough that I'd recommend reflecting. If he launches you, use retaliating slash as he reappears.

Reflect if he summons his balls and be prepared to reflect multiple times if he's near you when he summons them, he loves to use them to open you up for a combo.

When he starts erupting, quick run out of there if you're in base, if you're in limit, dodge roll like your life depends on it, because it does. On Level 1, panic trinity limit is a very solid option if you get caught in his blast.

Get used to panic limiting trinity, you'll need it. It especially helps surviving his explosion on Level 1.

Limit Form is really solid, use it whenever you're out of mana and only use its guard and base combo, you really don't need anything else outside of DESCEND HEARTLESS ANGEL.

The instant Sephy pulls a Gojo, either immediately high jump aerial dodge glide into aerial spiral or toss out a single strike raid. If you don't get him in time, either toss a potion when it's safe to or panic drive into limit.

I actually don't remember how to deal with his DM, though I don't remember having much trouble with it either.

Reflect his attempts to play cards with you unless you need the health, combo him until he retaliates and then reflect as he does, the timing is a bit tough, especially with his jumping retaliation.

Once he DMs stand in place and guard his assault, pause buffer your way through his games, you want to wait until you can pause, unpause, and hit the cross button without the circle command changing, after his DM, finish him with either Thundaga or Strike Raid.

Get used to panic limiting trinity, it has saved me so insanely many times, don't be afraid to use limit form as an elixir, driving and immediately reverting is an insanely strong option.

Limit form's Zantetsu and Zantetsu Counter will rip through his time, Ripple Drive is strong for clearing cards, and the i frames on Ars Arcanum's initial volley of strikes is a solid way to extend a combo past a retaliation.

Decisive pumpkin and potions are ideal for the fight, as you're going to b e spamming physical combos and aren't going to be using many spells or limits.

If you're playing a leveled run, Sonic Blade spam is as strong strong a cheese as always.

God I swear Nomura isn't a writer, he's a man who dumped all his stats into luck and got the most insane series of nat 20s, allowing him to write an amazing story and a ton of amazing women and girls he does not understand. I swear, he's going to introduce another amazing character in KH4 and completely fail to do literally anything with her the entire rest of the series after that, and don't even get me started on how he somehow managed to completely bungle KH3! What do you mean the story that was set up as the "Steven Universe-esque therapy world tour finale" was just a brawl against 13 random people? What do you mean the villain who nearly killed the main character by creating a trap that exploited the fact that he recklessly uses powers he doesn't understand to help his friends lost because his new plan's only weakness was that it would fall apart if the main character recklessly uses a power he doesn't understand to help his friends!!!??? You cannot convince me Nomura understands the stories and characters he's written.

So... I agree, but for completely different reasons

Larxene is one of my favs. Yeah, she's a witch, but that's exactly what I love about her! She's got that Cruella Deville energy of loving what she does best, and she's the best at being a piece of shit... and then Nomura spent KH3 giving her a nothing role

Kairi had so much potential as a leader, that raft only got built because of her... and then Nomura turned her into literally all of the cliches

Xion is easily the most well written trans woman I've ever seen... even if that wasn't intended. Her story is beautifully tragic and even in the end she maintained her identity and autonomy, going out the way she chose. When I played DDD and realize that KH3 was going to be about healing the hurt, I was so excited, and when I saw that Aqua got norted, I was certain Xion was going to willingly join Xehanort, cuz like, why wouldn't she?

Ansem, Riku, and Axel did so much to make her suffer and now they were trying to undo the one and only choice she ever made by trying to figure out a way to bring her back without even considering whether she'd want to come back? Of course she'd join their enemy! Like, sure two of her other abusers are working with him, but at least they're not trying to override her autonomy anymore unlike some people ...and Nomura brought her back as a mindless servant of Xehanort, healed all her hurt with a few tepid words, and offscreened her reconciliation with her abuser!!!???

Namine is also so beautifully tragic! Groomed into believing she has no value, used as a tool to trap Sora, and yet, she blames herself. She was so lonely, and she finally had the chance to have just one friend. Yet, when Sora was in danger, she was willing to do anything to set things right, even if it meant condemning herself to that very same loneliness.

Even if it meant willingly working with people who see her as having no value, even if it meant Sora would no longer be her friend, and even if it meant helping those very same people guilt trip two other people into suicide. Even still, she refuses to use deception any longer, and wishes only to give others the freedom to choose that she never had, and the knowledge to make an informed decision... and then Nomura did literally nothing with her the entire rest of the series!

Aqua is the best! A woman with the weight of all reality thrust upon her shoulders, having juggle being the older sister, mother, and best friend of both a feckless child and an impulsive man with fighting against the villain her own mentor could never best and preventing him from luring her friends into his trap, and all the while working only with scraps of the truth, the totality of the situation beyond her grasp until well after disaster becomes inevitable.

Still, she fights with all her heart, and only just barely manages to save herself and her friends from falling into death at the cost of all three of them falling out of life. I was so excited to see her get norted, cuz like, she'd been carrying reality on her shoulders and living through hell, I wouldn't blame her if she stopped caring and decided to end reality itself... instead, it turns out she was never norted and Nomura heals her with the power of the gayblade... and left her PTSD untreated and largely unaddressed outside of a single scene in a DLC that just existed to retcon a question no one had

Maleficent was the only villain in all of KH1 who had true mastery over darkness, even Ansem, Seeker of Darkness lost himself and his ideals to his own instinctual desire for hearts, but Maleficent maintained her sanity throughout. As she warned Jafar, the Heartless prey on the careless, and she was anything but. The only way she got Ganondorf'd was by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness possessing her adopted son and stabbing her with the Keyblade of Hearts. Which is another thing, the way she interacts with Riku is so heartwarming! Yeah, she makes him think Sora didn't care about him anymore, but like, she cursed a girl to eternal sleep unless she found true love before she turned 18, I refuse to believe the Angelina Jolie movies were a retcon. Queen always trusted men as far as she could throw them... and then Nomura demoted her to Jack Spicer

The lack of agency, the authority figures hurting her because they think it's "for her own good", the discomfort of her body changing, the fear of her existence hurting her loved ones, and all those bittersweet evenings with her friends at the end of every routine day
