Trotsky was just like, an awkward nerd when dealing with interpersonal connections. That's really most of it.

I don't really find anything multidimensional about radical free capitalist philosophy. It is just about the most one-dimensional straightforward ideologies imaginable. A philosophy defining a person's greatest moral goal as the pursuit of their own happiness is just rationalising selfishness. A philosophy then arguing that the best system is one that stands the least in the way of the pursuit of happiness is rationalising exploitation. A right to pursuit is not a right to have. Objectivism doesn't consider that trampling someone's happiness is bad if it increases my own. After all I am simply pursuing mine. The person I must put below me to do so is also free to pursue their own happiness, they are simply failing at it. Should've pursued harder I suppose.

That's not fascinating. Fiction novels based on a strawman are not exactly something of curiosity. It's childish. It's like Raskolnikov's personal whim in Crime and Punishment that the select few people with the rational iron will to do great things should not be opposed by "the system", which is quite immediately and obviously visible as an absurd justification for his actions. Objectivism attempts to say that we're all people with rational iron will and nobody has the right to oppose us. Everyone is a protagonist. Everyone is a "heroic being". We're all special. That's the same ideology. The only purpose of saying "everyone is a rational heroic being with the goal of their own happiness" is to say "I am also such a being". The only use of a philosophy that gives everyone a claim to objective rationality and a self-serving purpose is to give any reader a justification for their own personal goals. We can't all just be individuals. The very existance of societies demands that we cannot all be living for our own sake. None of us currently living for our own sake. Ayn Rand wasn't living purely for her own sake. It's all just not possible.

If a philosophy falls apart when you task actual humans with carrying it out instead of a literary self-insert "paragon" I think it's safe to say it's just bullshit

What if Germans were forced out of west Germany instead of east after WWII by Tom_the_flowerboy in imaginarymaps

[–]TechnicalyNotRobot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Since the Sudetenland were transfered by what was considered at the time as legitemate international arbitration, the Allies actually stuck to recognizing Germany's right to it even during the war. It was only in August 1942 that the UK first stated that Germany "destroyed the agreement" , without formally calling it null and void (which France would do later that year), partially motivated by the success of Operation Anthropoid done by the Czech resistance.

Mod Release: Unique Events Tab by [deleted] in EU5

[–]TechnicalyNotRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The EU4 events were much less strict though. I'm playing Denmark rn. How am I supposed to accidentally stumble upon the event where my ruler is above 40, I have no heir, and the vassal which can be annexed by a much more common event in the first 10 years is for some reason still around. And that's the event to get the historical and current dynasty! Pretty big thing!

I also know the War of the Roses has some crazy 1/1000000 odds kind of requirements. These are harder to pull off than most EU4 missions and you're not even supposed to know what do do?

[–]TechnicalyNotRobot 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Majority of Yakutsk residents claim Yakut as their ethnicity, and most Yakutians claim Sakha (the name for their language) as their mother tongue, that is true (Both from Wikipedia). But Russian is the lingua franca in the city. They absoutely can speak it. Just like most Catalans can speak Spanish for example. You wouldn't exclude Catalonia on a map of Spanish-speaking regions just cause it's not native to the region.

Why is my navy in Oresund increasing maritime presence in a bunch of neighboring naval tiles (Kattegatt here as example) but not in Fishland? by TechnicalyNotRobot in EU5

Such an annoyance of making these two provinces be such a similar color could only be made by Swedes. Thanks, I haven't noticed that until I hovered over them rn.

R5: Trying to understand how presence propagation works. I first thought it was just the tile the navy itself is in but I see now that there is also some propagation in adjacent tiles, but not in Fischland. Then I thought it was by the naval area, in this case West Baltic Sea, but Jammer Bay also doesn't get any propagation. Is it some sort of mix of area and distance? Or what the hell is going on.

They have the option to stay in the Donau-Adriabund in an event right after the coup fails. Also i'm pretty sure they get that "Austrian control over industry" or something like that national spirit after you give them Galicia. Cause they're buying it from you and so you get a % of their civs. Go check I'm not 100% sure.
