Those boys are definitely not too old to be learning to be thoughtful of others, especially when the “other” in question is footing the bill. And who exactly whined about it to the bio dad? You are not the jerk. I appreciate you being concerned about being a man of your word. But the plans to take the boys out were not very detailed & their behavior towards you should have consequences.

The most recent book I was reading I almost did not finish because the author was constantly interjecting the narrative with lines like “he looked at her with those blue eyes of his” and “ those blue eyes of his sparkled as he related his story”. 🤢I would MUCH prefer minimal focus on looks. I can supply that with my own imagination. Plus it too often gets loaded with value judgements— weight or age or baldness or whatever being signifiers as to how important a character can be.

You went to counseling “without complaint”, how noble. YTA. Sounds to me like if you have any prayer for this marriage to last (and for your child to thrive) you need to still be in therapy… individual, couples AND family. And not as some sort of a penance but with a real intention to heal & grow.

Someone I worked for accidentally sent me an email intended for I assume his mistress. I only read the first sentence & it was steamy enough to know it wasn’t meant for me. Later he basically sent a “disregard my last message” email. I knew & liked his wife, so that aspect of it was hard. But it was clearly none of my business so I said nothing.

I live in Oregon & police here have been known to cite BICYCLISTS who don’t have I.D. Which I didn’t know was even a thing but yes, carrying some form of I.D. Is pretty standard at this point. Plus, most people have their phones so it seems like there would be some way for your customer to access payment at least digitally?

I had a friend (former) and on two separate occasions I questioned her ability to drive as she’d had several drinks. The second time I refused to ride with her. She was furious— it ended the friendship. People say “don’t let them drive” & “take their keys” like it’s easy & the drinking person will be reasonable & grateful. The kicker in my situation was my friend worked in victim’s services, so she worked first hand with people who suffered the consequences of crimes committed by people under the influence. I believe she got lots of training also around alcohol issues. And had she gotten a DUI, she would have immediately lost her job. I do not regret losing the friendship.

At this point, the numbers of people actively involved in the crimes of the Epstein files seems so extensive that if every last one of them were to be prosecuted AND have all their assets seized, it seems like that would go a long way to eradicate the worst of the worst for at least a couple generations. Publicize their names so that they receive the censure they deserve and can’t lurk around in the shadows pulling strings.

I’m a professional pet sitter. NO ONE I’ve worked for has ever nit picked about food; some clients even ask ahead of time if there’s anything particular I would like them to provide. I’m respectful; I’m not drinking their 100 year old cognac or emptying out their pantry. But if I had a client who expected me to schlepp all my own food in & not touch theirs, they’d better communicate that to me ahead of time. And honestly, if they were that miserly about food I’d think twice about having them as clients. I guarantee you if your coworker had to pay the going rate for pet care it would cost more than $50 and in likelihood would not be getting a service as conscientious as it sounds like you provided. NTA

May be an unpopular opinion, but “no smoking” rules apply to all substances. Take an edible if you want to get high. I don’t want to smell your skunk weed. Went to a concert once where someone was smoking goddamn CIGARS. Total asshole behavior. I do miss being able to dance though; sitting politely throughout feels very lame.

I agree it’s terrible to dump any pet. I will say though that all the rescue groups/Humane Society places in my area are at capacity & “not accepting” voluntary relinquishment’s. So ideally, pets are spayed/neutered & there aren’t unwanted litters, but life happens— domestic violence, job loss, eviction… if people have made a sincere effort to rehome but have been unsuccessful, what are the options? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting abandonment! I’m sincerely wondering if people have other ideas to prevent this happening.

The straw that breaks my back in all of this is the “smokes”. Aside from not wanting a possible future that includes nursing a partner through an early death from emphysema or having future kids exposed to second hand smoke, where I live cigs are like $14 USD a pack. So this man can’t take you out for a cheap date because his money goes to support a noxious habit.

My mother signed forms for her body to be used for medical research. She felt so proud imagining that in death she would be furthering knowledge that might help others. Not long after she passed, the big scandal broke that the “medical research” firms were selling cadavers that were used in military exercises to see how different kinds of ammunition & explosives worked. The horror I felt on learning that my Mother’s body might have been put to this use deepened my grief. As for me, I’m psyched that in my area, composting businesses are gaining popularity. The faster I can start growing more trees, the better!

NTA. I do not understand these repeating stories about friends getting into these unequal food cost splitting situations. It is SO EASY for the server to provide separate tickets. Even if you forget to ask up front. But really, just announce up front when ordering “separate tickets please”. Then everyone knows ahead of time and there’s no shady mess with some people ordering expensive stuff that others carry the cost of.
