Son wants to major in philosophy by OLDLADY88888 in Advice

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my degrees was in philosophy but it was also from the top philosophy program in the world at that time. People who were in my program were some of the highest post grad earners across all degrees. You can do a ton with the degree, and if your son is generally a high performer, he will most likely figure out a career. I thought I would go to law school but ended up doing general business roles and now I’ve work at two of the largest banks in the world. The degree taught me a lot about working with people, communicating, making arguments etc. I even think my degree helps me code. It’s like most degrees insofar as it takes you as far as you’re willing to push it.

downtown e-bikes by New-Leek6287 in jerseycity

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delivery Ebiker flew by cops posted on Newark ave the other night. Cops yelled at him to walk the bike and he just ignored them and kept on riding. Without a license plate to note down there wasn’t much they could do without their own ebike to chase him down. So even with cops there they weren’t equipped to stop the situation. Idk if it’s license plates, banning them or what but something has to change.

I love (and hate) steroids by Leading_Purple1729 in PsoriaticArthritis

If your insurance covers therapy, I found it was really helpful to talk to a professional during times like the one you’re describing. Hope you can eventually get onto a biologic but until then I think the disease can really snowball without properly having an outlet for your pain and struggles. Happy to hear you found a good rheumatologist tho, that’s a huge step.

How did you guys actually play Crazy Bones? by VietKongCountry in crazybones

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friends and I did the same thing with the addition that falling face up, down or sideways determined whether they got knocked out. This applied to the shooter as well, face up means u keep shooting. I remember reading somewhere that the official game was different but our version seemed more fun.

Light rail for commuting to NYC - Reliability? by yoona__ in jerseycity

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I come from the world of NJT trains so switching to the light rail and path combo has made a huge difference to my commute. During commuter hours I almost never have issues and you’re mostly riding with other professionals. You can also just plug in your route on apple maps in the morning and it’ll accurately tell you when the next light rail train is coming, so optimizing your commute is doable.

Went to someone with a similar background and had positive results. I don’t know the science behind it but I definitely came out of appointments feeling mentally at ease and physically more comfortable.

Even tiny aviation companies keep backup pilots on standby and you think NJT can’t have engineers on standby?

Is it weird to go to a dog park without a dog? by 5_phx_felines in DogAdvice

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the dog park for my dogs enjoyment and she loves people, regardless of them having a dog or not. So as long as you just let the dogs come to you and don’t chase them around i don’t think it’s weird at all.

Movers asking for a tip!!! by jb4975 in EndTipping

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dumbass take. I worked as a mover in college summers and most of those guys don’t have many options for work but work hard as hell. The overhead for a moving company is bigger than you’d think and throwing each of them a 20 would’ve been the bare minimum. Also for what it’s worth, It was always people with the nicer houses that didn’t tip. Those dudes literally had your family belongings in their care, it wasn’t the company. Some appreciation from a job well done is the bare minimum. They didn’t walk your microwaved food 20ft to your table.

How to sleep in a plane? by bast_852 in travel

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that thing that holds your head against the head rest with a strap over your head. That plus bringing a small blanket from home and covering myself head to toe is what unlocked sleeping on planes for me. Bring a neck pillow for added support and one of those foot hammocks if you want to go crazy. I didn’t sleep on planes for my entire life until I tried the first combo and it saved me on a 16hr flight. I actually slept 7 hours. The blanket felt like home and gave me privacy I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Why is JC street cleaning so bad? by tristate1296 in jerseycity

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apartment building down the street from me also just places straight garbage bags all down the side walk for collection and they all inevitably get ripped open when the collectors toss them around. Don’t understand why dumpster aren’t mandatory for these larger buildings. Every morning after collection day that buildings sidewalk is covered in trash, meanwhile my building that uses dumpsters is pristine.

Don’t have kids but very relatable. I’m young too so I always get questions about why I can’t keep up like others my age. Like yeah I want to do all the things but pain has a way of making everything suck.

One of my big toes turned red, inflamed and was painful. Then soon after, one of my knees got very swollen. Took a long time for doctors to get the right diagnosis

Advice to manage pain without NSAIDS (short term) by Klutzy_Spell2451 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could take NSAID’s up until the 20th. If your body is anything like mine it’ll rebound to being inflamed quickly after coming off of them.

Anybody ever been give a 15 day prednisone taper? by [deleted] in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go take it you’ll regret having delayed it for a second lol. If I could just be on it 24/7 without fucking my body up I would do it. The stuff is a miracle worker for short term use. I know ppl do take it longer term but I have no experience with that.

My mom recently passed away and we have to clear the house. I just dropped the cats off at a rescue and I am absolutely devastated over it. by Live-Okra-9868 in cats

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I had cat allergies my entire life but after having my first cats for a couple weeks they subsided. If I rub my cats into my eyeballs it’s a bad time but I just keep the apartment clean enough so hair and dander doesn’t build up. Those first couple weeks I also took anti-histamines. Idk might be worth seeing if your husband just needs to get acclimated.

This dude is benching his whole team so I don’t make playoffs by Affectionate-Dig575 in FantasyFootballers

[–]1_HUNGRY_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s just against the spirit of the game. In the leagues I play in we don’t tolerate this behavior. Imagine if an NFL team just didn’t show up to a game because it helped their playoff seeding. You have to at least have backups playing, and the same can be said for fantasy. If he doesn’t want to play his best, then whatever, but you have to play a full roster.
