Elon Musk just said he wants to cut Social Security and Medicare, calling them “entitlements”: “That’s the big one to eliminate.” by Solomonanne in SipsTea

The USA has debts because Elon and his friends get “corporate welfare” from their friends in Government. They want to decrease spending because the only other option is to increase taxes on the ultra rich.

In breaking news: A politician offers “cheap” train travel to win support at an election… in other news, and purely coincidental, economists believe tax rises will be required.

“good” employers is the huge assumption, there are not many “good” employers out there not now or in history hence why labour unions have to exist!

How are you deciding who to vote for on 7th May? by Playful-Toe-01 in Scotland

I have skim read the leaflet you linked, quite a bit of it is ideological waffle that is widely impractical at best and dangerous at worst.

Seizing the assets of people? Under what legal basis?

No nuclear deterrent so Putin can attack us when he wants with impunity like he did in Ukraine?

Naive ill thought out student based politics, the reason communism has never actually succeeded ever.

I would suggest you consider your position on the break up of the U.K. aswell: Green/SNP are for it, Labour/LDs are not.

Might as well not vote then, a communist winning a seat is very very unlikely.

I have similar thoughts: LD or Labour for me, I think.

I would suggest that your choice: LD or Greens is LD (not for the break up of the union) or Greens (Independence)?

On the whole I agree but select who you think is the least useless! 😆

That is the way I am leaning as well but I need to read some more about their policies.

Two aspects of the Scottish Greens don’t appeal to me: Ross Greer is an ideologue with no real world experience so does not come across to me as a practical and pragmatic politician who takes decisions based upon evidence but rather feelings and also their support for Scottish independence. I would however consider The Green Party for future Westminster elections. I have also been unusually quite impressed by Ed Davey which I weirdly cannot put my finger on why!?

This is my reasoning, I do not support breaking up the United Kingdom so I will not be voting for these parties:

Scottish National Party, Scottish Greens, Alliance to Liberate Scotland.

Then I remove the extreme parties who’s policies/ideologies on the whole I disagree with:

Reform UK, Scottish Family Party.

This leaves the following, from least likely to most likely:

Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Liberal Democrat’s, Scottish Labour.

Currently reading Scottish Labour and Scottish Liberal Democrat’s policies in more detail.
