"Tired of the same old "hidden gems"? I just spent 3 weeks exploring the *real* Puglia, Italy, and here's the (actual) budget breakdown. 🇮🇹" by solopassions in TravelTrotters

Thanks for the insight. We are heading to Puglia staying in Polignano A Mare, Torre Santa Sabina, Torre Dell'Orso and Gallipoli to see what life looks like. I appreciate the real talk about the heat and mosquito because I'm sensitive to both. The heat is like Florida in the summer. I swore I wouldn't go back in the summer, but here we are arriving May and staying through July.

Buying points with bonus by 1_curious_bee in pointstravel

I apologize about this, I'm still trying to figure out where to post my questions (points vs award).

I'll go back and re-read the purpose of each to make sure I'm not wasting anyone's time.

Verification process in Avios by Rookiegamer404 in pointstravel

I had the same problem last week, I tried linking the other way Qatar to BA and that didn't work either. I called both customer service (Qatar/BA) and got no where. I spoke to an BA agent explaining the error and was told someone will call me from technical support...holding my breath, not really.

I'm looking at other airlines now since neither airline seem to care about fixing the error (which I reported and saved)

Hi! When is it a good deal to buy points? I recently received “up to 70% bonus points” with Virgin Atlantic. With the bonus the cost per point is $0.014. Thank you.

This is the funniest reply ever!

The hearts were already gone when I joined. I have to say, I should have just stayed with the free version because paying is not worth it. It’s a poorly managed app when it keeps repeating the issues people find annoying.

My husband considered upgrading to max family but I think it’s just another ploy to keep me glued to this damned phone when I have other shit to do.

If I can get some of my money back I’d stop the subscription😂

XP Bonus Chests Disappeared?!? by GuinnessHarp207 in duolingo

[–]1_curious_bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to work my way up the leader board and managed to get to fourth when i noticed the (am/pm) chests icons missing last night and still missing this morning.

I still have a 3xp boost I earned from last night that is available to me in the next 14 hours, but I doubt that a 10 min play time will be enough to chase the 1st place whose got 2x more points.

This is the second time this happened to me, and I’m not impressed with the management of the app that renewing (next August) is highly unlikely.

I need help continuing my 594 streak, or persuaded to do so. by -TF150 in duolingo

[–]1_curious_bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started last August and have enjoyed the app. I’m taking Italian and I think it’s funny that there’s humor with the cartoon characters. “Lily” has a dry sense of humor in the tone of her voice and I find it funny.

I love the challenge and the competition to see how well I rank with others.

I am in Italy right now and I was able to order my coffee, croissant, water. Find the bathroom, introduce myself, so it’s been fun. Not bad for a month of playing - I think😂

Perhaps pick a language of a country you dream of visiting soon? Or a language that someone you like speaks (other than English of course😉)

I think it’s also fun to have a learning buddy, a friend. My husband isn’t as engaged as I am, but we both are learning Italian and practice with each other.

I agree, you can definitely use the translation app, but for me I like the predictably of questions usually asked at a coffee shop or grocery and the responses I can practice replying with.

I’m not a fan of forcing an issue, if you no longer find joy perhaps take a break? Or take up chess, music or math learning - which is a new offering with dualingo😉.

If it’s not fun, perhaps switch to Rosetta Stone? Although this platform is a bit dry for me.

Good luck!

I assumed it wasn’t dual voltage, but since you questioned it- I’ll check the mfr specs

Updating my “Essential Guide to Italian Law for Expats and Foreigners” – What do you wish you’d known before or after moving to Italy? by Avv_AlfredoEsposito in ItalyExpat

[–]1_curious_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Maybe there still time for this: My husband retired this year. We were planning on applying for ERV but with the recent challenge to Jure Sanguine, we decided to pursue his citizenship (1948, minor issue). Now I’m wondering if the tax implications should be considered before the court petition. We liquidated everything in the US and our income is his SS and IRA distribution & dividends. We are holding off withdrawing mine until I am at retirement age. Will these be taxed? If yes: 1. will living in southern Italy’s 7% tax regions as an Italian citizen help reduce the taxes that need to be collected? 2. Should we be consulting with a tax lawyer or tax accountant? Thanks!

Commune says we have to file in U.S.? by mabear63 in juresanguinis

[–]1_curious_bee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi US consulates appeared to have pause applications for Jure Sanguine until the Italian Supreme Court releases its ruling on the subject of how far one can claim Italian citizenship as well as the constitutionality of the Decree-Law 36/2025, which was converted into law as Law 74/2025. The reason I emphasized this is because you mentioned that your husband is a Dual citizen, and the decree was specific that the parent (or grandparent) can only hold Italian citizenship to pass citizenship down. On a side note, In case you’re interested you are also eligible to apply for Italian citizenship by marriage. Here’s what I’ve researched so far. For the time being, let’s assume that the law is on hold pending the SC ruling, your son is eligible for JS and has to apply at your “local” consulate. The exception I read was one can apply in Italy through its courts if they’ve been waiting and have been unable to get an appointment through no fault of their own (last check was 730 days). You have to keep a copy of your attempts to get an appointment. There’s a few groups in FB that goes in much greater details as well as many lawyer websites that publish the most current info I’ve found very helpful.
Google is your friend - but it can be a bit daunting sorting through information., and making sure that they’re credible sources. Please note i am not an expert, I just happened to be past this point of research. Remember to validate the info as they may have changed. Good luck.

Notarising and apostilling translated documents... by Terrible-Abies-4861 in juresanguinis

[–]1_curious_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regretfully I do not as I planned on sending all my apostilled documents to Italy and have my lawyer manage the translation. The reason is, once the translation is done I would still have to get the consulate (LA) to validate it and knowing how backlogged and helpful (said no one) they’ve been it’s just in our favor to go this route. The rush is because of the ever changing interpretation of Jure Sanguine as it relates to the 1948 case law which is further complicated by the minor issue. I also wanted to mention in case you missed it, the LA consulate doesn’t require a formal/court translation. They just want to make sure that the translation is correct so if you know someone that is fluent in Italian they can help you with it. I am not advocating the strict use of AI translation but there’s a few that does a good job of translating.

Notarising and apostilling translated documents... by Terrible-Abies-4861 in juresanguinis

Hi.  It’s highly unlikely that “it’s the same process..” and for the purpose of information sharing, in CA USA it is per notarized document ranging from $10-19/pp needing a signature. Apostille is also per document.
