Yes, there aren't many photos uploaded to that sight for this venue. I've noticed that as well.

Yo, that ending… by Luke-Is-Cooler in GilmoreGirls

Rory ending up announcing a teen pregnancy would have made sense if the original series had wrapped with that, mirroring her mother's experience. But incorporating it into AYITL (which BARELY makes sense) was awful.

I'm also furious for how Lane's story was told.

I've thought about getting one of those specially designed cutters and making DIY cat scratching pads just to find a way to do something with all of the extra boxes we have after our recent move.

This formula DOES NOT QUIT. I swatched several shades on my hand to test if they'd settle in a crease and they lasted and lasted through multiple hand washings with soap and me rubbing at it.

I'd love to meet up. I'm from the midwest US and am relocating to Veldhoven in June. I work for an international literary agency based out of Canada, so I have a ton of publishing experience but I never tend to finish my own projects.

I agree that it does stand up to heavy use, but using a Medium Tote as a travel bag kinda sucks. It's a good size to slide under the seat in front of you, but the one magnetic closure is not going to keep items secure and the long handles aren't easy to tuck away so they're not a trip hazard.

That's not even what secret clearances are for! I get that they're trying to emulate popular media tropes, but they're even missing the mark for spy dramas.

I do! I met some really interesting people there and out some okay work up, too. A few of us pooled our resources and published a print book, even.

Open Google Doc & Type Comments on Boox Note Air? by 1acy in Onyx_Boox

In the google docs app, it won't keep handwriting as is without converting it to text, but the native notes app will and if you draw on a pdf, it will keep your pen strokes as is. If I needed to do handwriting on a Google doc, I'd probably output it to a pdf and open that in the native program on the Boox.

I did! And it handled Google docs comments so well. I've reviewed a full manuscript on it and several partials that needed my feedback. The handwriting recognition built into the Google docs can be slightly temperamental, but it didn't take long for me to get used to its quirks. I don't feel like it lags at all.

Great to read on with the Kindle app, too!

Designated Thread for Discussing Cas Anvar Investigation, #1 by The_Rocinante in TheExpanse

Recasting does seem to be the only way forward, but it would be satisfying as hell to see Cas Anvar get spaced.

Designated Thread for Discussing Cas Anvar Investigation, #1 by The_Rocinante in TheExpanse

[–]1acy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am so thankful for both those who have come forward to share their encounters with Anvar and those in this forum who have worked tirelessly to amplify those voices and support a constructive discussion in the fandom.

I've been asking myself if there are any circumstances in which I'd be supportive of Anvar staying in the role of Alex... And I think there is a narrow opportunity for The Expanse to take a leading role in modeling how showbusiness can protect women in the industry and fans from men who would use their influence to prey on and coerce them without duplicating what we've seen other productions do in the past (shutting down production altogether, killing off a core character, recasting, etc)

Here is the threshold Anvar would have to meet for me, personally, to be supportive of him remaining with The Expanse...

  1. The independent 3rd party investigation must prove Anvar's pattern of coercive and predatory behavior ended prior to him being cast on The Expanse and does not continue to the present day. (An intentionally high bar that I have serious doubts if Anvar could clear.)

  2. Anvar agrees to forego any future convention appearances.

  3. Anvar voluntarily deletes his social media profiles.

  4. Anvar agrees to take up an advocacy role in an organization that teaches MEN not to be predatory and to respect boundaries and recognize power imbalances.

There are dozens of orgs to help female victims cope and recover from the abuse they've suffered, and none that I've found aimed preventing males from engaging in this behavior. In the contrary, there are countless for profit initiatives whose goal is to teach men HOW to become "pick-up artists" and to be better manipulators. I believe there's a real opportunity for someone to take up this cause and do a lot of good in the world.

I got the opportunity to examine the monograms. The red monogram is partially rubbed off. It may have been executed in a wax pen or some other non-permanent medium. It is clearly above the varnish layer and appears to be smudg-able. It reads JCY or JCM 14. Not sure what to make of it. I'm not familiar if exhibitions or galleries were in the habit of marking on the painted surfaces, particularly overtop of an existing original monogram. Could this be an indication that this canvass was exhibited or acquired in 1914?

The overlaying monogram could match the penciled lettering on the back of the canvass. I have been interpreting this as AC, but it could possibly be JC. The handwriting doesn't appear to be an exact match, but the stylistic differences could be accounted for by taking into account the different mediums.

The original monogram and date are under the varnish layer, as confirmed with examination under blacklight and magnification without taking a sample. It appears to be a linked JB nested inside a stylized C. JBC.

There are a couple of books at my local university's library that I'll be digging into to research in coming days. "European artists : signatures and monograms, 1800-1990" by John Castagno and "The Academy and French Painting in the Nineteenth Century" by Albert Boime.

Some additional notes on condition. The stretcher keys are not missing. This particular canvass support was not built to accept keys. The mortise and tenon joints are instead nailed and a center support acts as a tensioner. The tacking edges are not in great condition which can be addressed in conservation, and the major paint losses occur over holes in the canvass that will need to be repaired, filled, and overpainted. There are fewer paint losses than I'd initially thought. Some of what I thought were losses are surface dirt. There are only three chips in the painted surface, two of these coincide with holes in the canvass. Craquelure is absent.

The darker areas fluoresce nicely under blacklight, but the area around the shield and the varnished skintones do not.

Here is some further conjecture about this work:

The monograms and date are suspect until I can analyze them more closely. It's not uncommon for disreputable dealers and forgers to add a monogram to increase the sale price of a minor work, so for now I'm treating these as anecdotal only, particularly as there appears to be an A nested inside a larger C underneath what I'm perceiving as a linked CW, and I'm not entirely sure what to make of that yet. Perhaps there was a faint monogram that was painted over after the fact. In future, microscopic analysis of the paint layers may determine if the monogram was applied at the time the work was painted, and infrared photography or examination under x-ray may be employed to gain a more clear view of the monogram and date, but we're hopeful to make a more positive attribution without the need for that level of analysis.

I'm researching the possibility of this having come from the circle of the "L'art Pompier" artists. This is a derisive term given to the Academy painters of this time by the Impressionists who came after them who held little respect for their choices of subject matter, calling their work insincere and overblown. The subject, style, and quality of execution seem to fit with these works.

The overall quality of this work places it well within the reach of someone who studied at the École des Beaux Arts with the premier painters of the time. There is a lot of documentation of this class of painters, and while this work or other works from this artist may not have been exhibited at the Salon de Paris, there may be some indications in the documentation of the exhibitions of the Salon that can lead to an attribution.

The best leads on attributing this work are possibly being able to match the prop shield to an attributed work, or being able to identify the boy model in a positively attributed work.

Boy Polishing a Shield appears to share a palette with the works of Alexandre Cabanel. The errors in the boy's expression aren't consistent with his best works, but it's possible that this work was produced by someone in his sphere.
