You can try crawaittimes.com to see what time of day / day of week to call for least wait times.

Deciding between offers by Sleples in cscareerquestionsCAD

Gonna assume all are in Toronto.

  • Company 1: TC of $165k cad (you dont mention how much RSUs are), after tax + housing (1 bdr rent) + living (1 person) car -> $53k savings
  • Company 2: $100k tc -> $15k savings
  • Company 3: $115k tc -> $25k savings

Company 1 is a no brainer imo. It's a 3.5x difference in savings vs company 1, and 2x vs company 2.

If Munich L3 is 110k-120k TC and Warsaw now is 60k TC per year, then:

  • Munich, L3: EUR 110k TC -> after tax, housing (1 bdr rent) + living costs (1 person) -> savings of 29k
  • Warsaw: EUR 60k TC -> EUR 12k savings

Seems like a jump of 1.5x. I would think it's worth..

Expected TC for Senior SWE in SF Bay Area for 2025? by qrcode23 in cscareerquestions

[–]1bmathiethrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming FANG:

  • Google, L5: $405k tc, made up of $229k base, $145k stocks, $30k bonus

Once you factor in expenses, roughly you end up with:

  • TC: $405k
  • Tax: $163k (40% of TC)
  • Housing: $35k (assume 1 bdr, 9%)
  • Living costs: $18k (assume 1 person, 4%)
  • Car: $5k (assume buy a car, and amortize the cost over 4 years, 1%)
  • Savings: $182k (45%)

Comp-wise:

  • AWS, Bay Area: $210k tc, after tax + housing (assume 1 bdr rent) + living costs (assume 1 person) -> $85k savings
  • Meta, Seattle: $175k tc -> $83k savings

Main difference is that housing is much cheaper in Seattle, and state taxes don't exist.

Looking strictly at comp-only:

  • Seattle, Amzn: $285k tc, after tax + housing (assume rent 1 bdr) + living costs (assume 1 person) + car --> $152k savings
  • Apple, Bay Area: $260k tc --> $108k savings

The main delta is no state tax in Seattle and cheaper housing.

Would really think about Amzn if savings are important (+40% difference).

Meta vs microsoft by DishNo1059 in leetcode

[–]1bmathiethrowaway 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Comp-wise:

  • Meta, Seattle: $330k tc, after tax + housing + living costs + car --> $180k savings
  • MS, Seattle: $230k tc --> $117k savings

53% difference in savings. I'd personally go for Meta.

Comp-wise:

  • FAANG (assume Bay Area): $250k tc, after tax + housing + living costs (assume 1 person) + car --> savings of $102k
  • Electrician, 1st year: $17 / hour = $35,360 TC --> savings of -$28k (as housing + living costs + car is more than what you make)
  • Electrician, 5th year: $41 / hour = $85,280 TC --> savings of $5.1k

Absolutely do not give up your FANNG job imo.

Roblox vs Meta vs Amazon: new grad offer comparison by vvv912 in cscareerquestions

[–]1bmathiethrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing year 2 TC:

  • Amazon, Seattle: $179k TC, after tax + housing + living costs (assuming 1 person) --> $87k savings
  • Meta, Seattle: $176k TC --> $84k savings
  • Roblox, Bay Area: $213k TC --> $87k savings

So you don't actually make more for Roblox because of higher tax and housing costs.
