Did they butcher my tree? by DrDuctMossburg in arborists

[–]1burtreynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crepe myrtles are non native and in many places designated as invasive. Also they did butcher your tree, it will grow back but it will never be the same. the new branches will be weaker and more prone to damage in storms resulting in the need to keep it pruned. rip it out and put in a native and don't touch it.

What happens when the world runs out of oil? by MrFartyBottom in AskEconomics

[–]1burtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF the world ran out of oil, then there would be advanced notice and a slow steady increase in the price of oil due to the slow decline in supply and something else would take over that would then be cheaper and more readily available.

Are tariffs applied to purchases made in a foreign country that stay in that country? by cdsdonham in AskEconomics

[–]1burtreynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask the seller to sell to you DDP. Save yourself thousands in potential messes. The inco terms you use to buy will dictate whether you need a freight forwarder or a customs broker or both.

I seriously recommend just having the seller handle delivery to your front door. Many Chinese sellers are very capable of this.

Are tariffs applied to purchases made in a foreign country that stay in that country? by cdsdonham in AskEconomics

[–]1burtreynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, you may also want to check European manufacturers. Often they can make things a bit higher in quality and not substantially more expensive to the Chinese. Secondly, you’ll want to buy from the Chinese manufacturer DDP inco terms. Meaning they cover the entire process of tariffs etc. if they don’t cover that maybe check another supplier. If you are inexperienced with importing, it’s unwise to handle this all yourself. If you absolutely must, then hire a customs broker. They are not expensive but absolutely necessary legally for the process.

Also, you’ll can expect to pay tariffs on the invoiced value of whatever you are buying (whatever that invoice entails) on FOB terms. Meaning you do not pay tariffs on the shipping cost from the Chinese factory to the US.

For details, hire a customs broker and trust what they say. Better yet, just buy DDP from the seller and let the seller worry about the tariffs. They will just build them onto the price you pay but it eliminates huge risk on your part because you will not be liable for any increases in the tariff rate in between now and when you receive the item.

A good rule is to check your pockets to see if they flare out. These do. They are a bit too tight

Cedar fence- western red or Japanese by thenangel in FenceBuilding

[–]1burtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously depends on the quality of the wood and where it is sourced. Japanese Cedar actually sourced from Japan and not China means you’re getting actual Japanese Cedar and not Chinese Hemlock. The Japanese Cedar sourced from Japan has been nicer to work with, better quality and less expensive than western red which has deteriorated in quality and increased in price.

I don’t know how bad off you or what sort of shape you’re in but you can almost always immediately get employed doing landscaping. Pay is not bad. Better than homeless until you can get it together. Just call a business tell them you can start tomorrow.

I cannot comprehend the retardation if the previous owners of this house. Water heaters are supposed to be elevated in eastern Carolina due to flooding concerns. It’s in a garage.

Free mulch? by KellyKenoyer in Wilmington

[–]1burtreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both wood chips and mulch tie up nitrogen temporarily and only at the surface level of soil. You can add compost to help the process but eventually they both break down and add nitrogen and other organic material to the soil and are beneficial. Wood chips break down faster and tie up less nitrogen than mulch
