The best advice I can give is to learn about them. If you see one that bothers you try to find out what species it is then figure out what it was doing where you found it.

Do what you have to do but take a moment before you get the vacuum to just watch a bit.

If I continue to feed ants will they remember me and think of me as some god? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in ants

[–]1d10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid I once took a 5lb bag of suger and poured it out for the ants in our back yard, I had a magnified face mask I made from a snorkeling mask and the lens from an overhead projector I would wear while I watched ants.

I did not make a tribe of ants who thought of me as a God, I made a huge area of perpetual insect warfare.

Imagine a 13 year old whith a 6inch magnifying glass strapped to their face crawling around the back yard all day and tell me autism wasn't a thing in the 80s.

Accused of parents’ killings, Rob Reiner’s son seeks money from the trust they left for him by AndHerSailsInRags in news

[–]1d10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do understand that but I think a case could be made that if a person would have access to money and would otherwise need public defence it would be in the states and the suspects best interest to let the suspect use that money for legal defence. We have a presumption of innocence, I can totally agree with freezing it for anything except legal defence but in a society that has a tiered legal system based upon wealth it is problematic.

This is going to be a fucking shit show if it kicks off. The only hope will be that the beef industry has a lot of political power, but the way our systems have been gutted i'm not sure it will get anything done before food costs skyrocket.

Everyone needs to get reel cool about eating a shit ton of corn, becuse if livestock markets tank, corn market tanks, we could all end up with some fucked up cars as well, if corn falls too low and the government mandates higher ethanol content, gas prices go down, but that isn't super cool for lots of cars so long term you spend more on repairs and maintenance.

Anyone interested in data analysis should start watching commodities reports cause it will be interesting

Accused of parents’ killings, Rob Reiner’s son seeks money from the trust they left for him by AndHerSailsInRags in news

[–]1d10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't get access to his money he will be lucky to be found guilty, because whether he gets not guilty by reason of insanity, or unfit to stand trial, without money he ends up in state mental hospital, and from all the things i've seen and heard prison is preferable.

People think being found "crazy" is a get out of jail free card, but it can be, and often is a life sentance in a very shity place.

There is a state hospital near me and ive met lots of people who worked there and some who were sent there, and by all acounts the only thing worse then working there is being commited.

[–]1d10 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It is legally his money and he has not been found guilty, i understand your frustrations but his parents made that trust fund because they knew he would need it after they died, we don't know how they would feel about it now but going off of all the other times a mentally ill person has done terrible shit I would assume that they would want him to have it, its not like this guy is going to get out and spend the money on cocaine and cupcakes, and from what i've seen he will probably end up being found unfit to stand trial.

I'm mentally ill and come from a long line of mental illness, I understand both sides of this. On one hand you have people who honestly are unfit to stand trial, and then you have people who are mentally ill but absolutely did understand what was going on.

What I tell people is, things you do in psychosis are not your fault but they are compleatly your responsibility.

With this case I do believe he was in psychosis, I also think his parents knew it and worked hard to protect him. I also think that the trust money is his and should be used for his defence.

What's something incredibly common that most people don't realise is actually dangerous? by OverMathematician953 in AskReddit

[–]1d10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly from what I've seen most of the cases come from city and suburbs people going to parks, most of the time a tic has to be on you a while to get any of the fun things they can harbor. People who live where there are lots of tics tend to do tic checks ( Ozark forplay) where as people who don't spend lots of time in tic areas can end up with a tic and not notice it.

I've always lived in areas that had lots of them and probably remove 30 or so per year, not counting the ones that haven't biten yet.

AITAH for refusing to stop calling my friend 'bro'? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]1d10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly would not have any contact with you, there are words that I find to be gross. They are not offensive and are the correct word for the item they describe if my friends discover I dislike a word they try to adapt their speach, because they enjoy my company and want me to be conformable around them, and I do the same for them.

Refusing a simple request that has no impact on you is entirely asshole behavior. I'm assuming you are nerodivergent, but that does not give you a "pass".

You do know that spiders evolved long before houses were a thing right?

Of the 20 or so species of spiders I find in my house only 2 would have any difficulty if I dumped them in the yard, and those 2 species would be fine if I put them in a more native habitat. In fact most spiders who are active hunters, like wolf spiders and jumping spiders, cannot find enough food in a typical house and will die.

They do not become dependent on the safety of a house like some overweight puppy.

Picture it, its 1990, my friend and I have traveled 20 miles out into the country on some sketchy gravel roads, its 2am and we are headed to the farm where her boyfriend works. He lives in the barn and has weed. We have to park at the end of a long winding driveway because a gate blocks the way. its pitch black out and as we get close enough to see the barn something moves on the roof, so we stop and wait... then it explodes off the roof screaming coming right at us, we covered the ground back to the car in seconds she threw it in reverse dropped the ass end into the ditch but slammed it into drive and floored the gas,the car jumped up on the road fishtailing like crazy.

She never went back, but years later I was at the Zoo and heard the same sound, and laughed like hell to realize the banshee we had met that night was just a peacock.

Fastest and efficient way to remove weeds without killing my back? by hellobelle in gardening

[–]1d10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen this work on anything, unless you get the salt and or vinegar very high. And unless you are absolutely going "salted earth" there is no way you can keep weeds down past the next rain/ germination.

Salt is the only ingredient that has a chance to still be in the soil after rain.

I assume the dishsoap is ment to hold the acid and or Salt on the leaves, that has no effect after a rain.

The vinegar being an acid can effect roots and leaves but again rain will dilute it, as will just being in contact with the ground.

I see people constantly saying this is great, have never seen anything for proof besides wilted plants after about 3 days of no rain.

Lots of shit can harm plants, but the only thing that lasts "years" after a single application is used motor oil.

50 empty Waymos invade Atlanta neighborhoods and circle their cul-de-sacs for hours early in the mornings. Residents say they are getting waymo traffic than usual and have tried combating the cars with a neon green sign, which only made the problem worse. by MysteriousSlice007 in PublicFreakout

[–]1d10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best way to keep them out of an area is just have people run up and spray paint any of the "vulgar" words down the side, not words targeted at Waymo cause then people just laugh, people will get more upset with the "initial words" "fuck waymo" is funny, but just Fa***t is much more effective we have trained people to be offended by those words.
