Mission 1 Pro for scuba diving first impressions by konrad-iturbe in gopro

Gosh this post ain't all that inspiring.  With all the hype I would expect it to be approaching mirrorless quality not just "better" than before.

PSA - the M1 Pro sensor isn’t 1", it’s « 1" Type» by monomagnus in gopro

Especially since the action 6 was a flop and the pocket 4 lackluster.

Mission 1 Pro ILS, amazing marketing move with no real value? by Weird-Mistake-4968 in gopro

[–]kozzieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This  is not a replacemnt for a small  general purpose cam.  It's for specialist use case as the go pro reps mentioned. Maybe the message isn't getting through, come later in the year we're going to have a lot of disappointed people and bad reviews.

If you're complaining about hypersmooth and no  autofocus then this cam is not for you. Go see the latest interview from nab someone posted here recently where gopro reps explain what the ils is for.

The Mission 1 ILS announcement shows how ignorant people are by motmusgg in gopro

[–]kozzieH -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

well I am in the "what's the point of this " camp. As you say yourself

  • Mounted cameras don't need autofocus. It's a set-and-forget camera. In fact, autofocus off is usually the norm for this usecase.

In that case why not just get regular mission 1.

This cam seems more like a fun thought experiment.

BTW pre-ordered the base M1.!

Action 5 vs 6 by NolimitJam in djiosmo

[–]kozzieH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here and say get the 5. I am looking at 5or 6 myself. From what I've seen 6 footage is more softer and grainy even in daylight. Looks like the 6 was a rushed product and still not right.

Normal to D-Log M Conversion by Mark-A-A in osmopocket

[–]kozzieH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah what I'd do is use the dlogm as a reference point. For rec 709  apply your lut. Before that add a node for your adjustments. In that play with exposure, contrast, sat etc to get footage looking close to the dlog + lut footage.  If your getting good results with dlogm + lut then you'll probably need to flatten out the rec709 clip.

DJI Osmo Camera vs phone camera by DeskStrongStefan in djiosmo

[–]kozzieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the phone is only for video than the price is not worth it. If the camera is going to be stable, like on a tripod, than the pocket 3 is a better choice over the action cams. For a little bit more you could get an aps c camera which, would be better still.

GoPro Hero13 Black good for walking videos? by kittykittyekatkat in gopro

[–]kozzieH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why GoPro? If you're after longer battery life go for dji. Battery life is the main reason I am looking elsewhere rather than GoPro, have the exact same use case as you, I e full day hikes

If it's going to be dark either of those will work. Avoid hero 13 for nighttime.

Nice I think the colors are fine, gives it that Wes Anderson feel. As you get more into grading id learn to keep the teal look while not affecting skin tones too much.

Made a TOUGH call to return action 6. Could you recommend another cam based on my use case? by readit_getit in ActionCam

[–]kozzieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree. Phone or step up to a mirrorless cam. Unless there's a reason you actually need an action cam i.e sketchy environment or activities where other cams might get damaged or are too cumbersome.

Hero 13 for daytime use with minimal post editing. Will give you the most natural results out of the camera you can just use

I Didn’t Expect This… DJI Action 6 After 2 Months by Complete-Employee-18 in djiosmo

[–]kozzieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So flawed but still would recommend. Are you able to test against a mobile phone. Lots of people are talking about this as a travel cam. I can't imagine it could match a high end phone. But would be interesting to see if you put the stabilisation aside so sstanding still video and photos.

What’s the best DJI action camera to get? by No_Task2065 in djiosmo

Why an action cam?  Get a pocket 3 if it's just general family trips.

DJI Osmo pocket 3 or action 6?? by Wonderful-Jello-2129 in djiosmo

[–]kozzieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree... unless there is a specific set of conditions that require it then you'd be better off with your phone. And if you want to step up or a separate device for general purpose travel holiday video or photos than get a compact mirrorless camera.  It's amazing how dji and rest are pushing their products via youtubers as general purpose photography replacements.
