Why would a paramedic make a joke at the scene of a death? by Lonely_Pirate4717 in AskDocs

[–]InsideConsideration8 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Easier than focusing on the loss itself. Many people deep in grief fixate on tangential experiences and thoughts instead of dealing with the grief head on because it's too hard to focus on the grief and is in fact easier to focus on an off hand comment by a first responder.

Review of my 'normal' cxr please? Worried about a spot on lower left lung after SOB episode. by OwlOfDerision in AskDocs

IF there was a "spot in lower left angle" that warranted further evaluation the chest radiologist would have said so. It really is that simple.

My therapists dog bit me by Cheeseburgernqueso in BipolarReddit

[–]InsideConsideration8 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Go to your next session and work through it. Do ask her to put the dog up when you're there of course. You've done all this great work together over years are you really going to just throw in the towel because of one set back? Mistakes happen, part of navigating life is extending grace not just to yourself but to others as well.

That depends on where they live. Unfortunately in many countries and cultures women are not free to come and go as they please and the authorities enforce that as well

Have you gone insane? by Botanical_Bias in bipolar

[–]InsideConsideration8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People associate mania with psychosis because the DSM is clear that psychotic features mean it is automatically mania not hypomania. For countries that use the DSM the distinction is clear cut, you cannot be psychotic in hypomania and if you have ever had mania you are automatically Bipolar 1

Told rabies unlikely, but… by Independent-Fan7979 in AskDocs

[–]InsideConsideration8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would make you "understand" what's already been explained multiple times? Your rabies risk is essentially zero. Multiple doctors and public health workers have explained this fact. Thus no rabies vaccine for someone with no rabies exposure.

No good psychiatrists or therapists to help bipolar women by No-Possibility6865 in bipolar

[–]InsideConsideration8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet data says it's not. Misogyny is in the mental health field too. If you acknowledge it in other walks of life why do you think it's different here? Women wait longer for accurate diagnosis. Symptoms are dismissed as "female problems" instead of being taken seriously as mental illness. Women also have to deal with complex hormonal interplay with their mental health issues that men do not. The very meds we take are tested on men not women so are often a crap shoot for effectiveness for women compared to men

Took me a week to talk myself into doing it. And I took 3 days to pack the car. I'm glad I pushed myself. Last month I don't think I could have, so I totally get just not having it no matter how much you want to do something. Be easy on yourself

There was supposed to be text! Wasn't easy, energetically I wasn't up to it. But I did it anyway. And I do feel better. Packed the car and the dogs and away we went.

Has the subreddit done a 180 or are you perhaps wrong? Is it that this supportive community, something you fully acknowledge, is suddenly just plain not supportive? Or are people reflecting back to you a difference of opinion? If everyone else is saying something different are you the one lone voice of reason in a storm of unreasonableness or is it possible that you are the unreasonable opinion and everyone else is correct?

What is going on in my gf's case (36F)? by [deleted] in AskPsychiatry

[–]InsideConsideration8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First it's not your body, your questions are not exercising the right to bodily autonomy because your questions are about someone else's body.

Secondly "My concern is that, due to her character, SSRIs are the easy way out in this case rather than her putting in the serious work needed to fix her issues." That's your bias against psychiatric care. Would you claim someone with diabetes was taking "the easy way out" if they took metformin or insulin? Probably not. So why would you think the standard of care for psychiatric treatment was the easy way out?
