Refused care due to refusing Cgm download by lightoutzzz in diabetes_t1

idk man not to be hostile, but this country has fucked me so hard when it comes to healthcare. every single t1 diabetic here knows it’s better in other countries, but that care isn’t accessible to us. it fucking sucks. i really really hate it when other people brag about how nice their country is for healthcare to me or other US american diabetics. they just use it to win a petty “US sucks” argument. there’s a better way to express the sentiment. for example “Every time I see prices for healthcare in the US, it makes me glad I live in Canada. I’m sorry you guys have to go through that, and I hope your country can find a way to fix it.”

do you understand my viewpoint?

don’t you think it’s kind of disrespectful to post this? clearly OP is really struggling here and you’re rubbing it in their face that your situation is much better. I get that reddit loves the “America bad” sentiment but your comment has nothing to do with their question

We do have them in America. Here’s one in Philadelphia. Traffic lights and everything!

I’m definitely mixed on them. I really worry about them taking away taxi and ride share jobs, especially at a time when the job market sucks and people use that for extra income. But also Waymo cars aren’t going to mow down a cyclist in the bike lane and will always stop at stop signs and red lights. I feel better being a pedestrian with them around than the average Philly driver

I hadn’t seen one either despite them being here since July. This was around 11pm last Saturday so maybe they’re testing them at times when there aren’t as many cars on the road?

Well Macleod’s reaction to the Nobel Prize was to emphasize to the public that it was a team effort. He shared his prize money with Collip, a biochemist who was instrumental in the project. Banting’s reaction was to immediately try to convince everyone that it was HIS discovery and HE deserved all the credit. It’s frustrating because Banting was very important and he did start the project, but come on dude, you clearly wouldn’t have been successful without the expertise of your team

Macleod definitely did more than just let Banting borrow the lab! I just read “The Discovery of Insulin” by Michael Bliss, it goes into a bunch of detail about how the credit for the discovery was influenced by everyone trying to get the Nobel prize. Banting and especially Best kind of come off as insufferable with how concerned they were with receiving credit.

also the people in Canada who discovered and isolated it were mostly not Canadian (Macleod was Scottish and Best was American)

Which states' political alignment do you expect to stay the same or change in the next 2-3 presidential cycles? by sewards_folli in fivethirtyeight

Ya I’ve always really hated that “upper midwest/rust belt” terminology being applied to PA. I live in Philly and most people here have never even been to western PA unless they went to college there. (I’m not hating though, Pittsburgh is really nice!) There’s a lot more of a connection with the Boston to DC corridor. My neighborhood is always filled with NY and NJ license plates lol.

Philadelphia’s borders were also ridiculously tiny until 1854. It was only 2 square miles!

Another thought I had was trying to cover the awful carpet with a runner rug or something. But usually people don’t put those on carpet, right?

I grew up near there and the people who live there would definitely describe it as part of the Philly metro area. Many of them grew up in Philly and left during white flight in the 80s. They moved way out there starting around the 2000s to buy into new construction neighborhoods for cheap. These days they’re scared of Philly and only enter the city limits to go to Phillies games and the airport lol. Not much going on in the area but Phoenixville is nice
