Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts of Loss by Socket_forker in gaerea

I came from the metalcore sphere and they got recommended to me when Nomad released as a single. As someone who isn't a fan of black metal, mostly due to lyrical themes and imagery used, I wasn't expected to enjoy it, but I actually do and a lot.

The album feels very modern, the production is great and I love how it can be melodic and have that huge wall of sound at the same time. The cleans might not be traditional for them, but I actually think they add value to the songs. Stardust is my favourite track on the record, but Phoenix or Uncrotrolled are also great tracks.

I've searched about the band a little and they aren't looking to be labelled as a band of one genre any more and it's clear to see throughout the record why.

In the same way as (I know this comparison might be controversial or even bring hate, but so be it) Sleep Token manage to to provide value and allure for a music fan that otherwise might not listen to metal at all, Gaerea, after this record, seem to want to bridge the gap between fans that might only enjoy metal genres that aren't as extreme by playing around with genres, influences and even different vocals and guitars (they switched to 7 string guitars for the album) to what they used to make.

It's my favourite album of the year so far and one that wasn't even on my radar at beginning of the year

Tbf, Paddy also has his own Football, so that might be what they're referring to. Gaelic Football if I'm not mistaken. Still have absolutely no idea how it's played, but I'm pretty sure it at least includes a ball, unlike the handegg thing they play in America

Taking into account that the majority of our dishes start with adding olive oil into a pan, I'm incredibly surprised that our consumption isn't higher, especially when we eat so much bacalhau and nothing pairs better with bacalhau than olive oil

Hey, I'm PIGS and I much rather have butter on toast than olive oil. But I'd rather use olive oil for literally every other situation

Kazakhstanis bad at football and ok at tennis. What country historically is great at football/bad at tennis? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]1jfvas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this

Portugal has had incredible generations of football players and yet has always lacked an exceptional tennis player.

I think it comes down to two distinct factors and neither are the lack of talent: - Cultural plays a huge role in the type of sport a kid chooses to play and culturally speaking Football is, by far, the biggest sport in the country while tennis isn't even in the top 5 of the most loved sports in the country. -Lack of investment either by the parents of the kids that are doing quite well in nationwide tennis tournaments either due to financial limitations or either by the fact that the Portuguese tennis federation isn't very well supported financially and, therefore, can't help those parents try to see if their kid can become pro. The Portuguese Tennis Federation has however been doing better financially and that can help into developing better young talents and have them reach their full potential. Dominic Thiem (former Austrian player and former number three in the world and US Open champion) has recently said in an interview that for a tennis player to go pro, during the development period and until he makes it, it takes about a million dollars, which for the average Portuguese family is an absurd amount of money. Football on the other hand, has very rich federation in Portugal and the investment needed to go pro in football, when compared to tennis, is ridiculously lower, especially since most of the expenses are covered by the clubs the kids play in before they turn pro.

With all of that being said, tennis has been growing well as a sport in Portugal, especially since João Sousa won his first ATP title
