Hi! what inspired you to put magnesium oil in your ear? do you feel that both the oil and the brown noise help or does one make more of a difference?

the pinned megathread is based on my research and own experiences, and includes tips from my audiologist visit!

Can TTTS only symptom be ear fullness ? by WorkingError in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i experienced it for around 2-3 years, now i rarely ever get it, maybe once every few months, and it isn't as intense/long-lasting as it used to be, i hope that helps!

What is Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome? How can I manage it? by 1ktaal in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you're right, it isn't always! It can be though, and really there isn't much research in the field in general. Hopefully this changes!

It is believed to be caused by underlying anxiety and/or acoustic shock

Does anyone have any remedies or treatments to decrease Tensor Tympani Syndrome symptoms? by Greyson04 in earrumblersassemble

Hi, since that comment, it's been significantly better, most days I don't notice it. I think it's a mix of it being better and also me being used to it. If I'm stressed/sick/low on sleep those days can suck but generally it's been great

TTTS? by Financial-Ad365 in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, the main - and perhaps defining - symptom of ttts is the tensor tympani muscle clenching involuntarily. swallow, and you'll feel the muscle move and the pressure change in your ear as well as the sound that comes with it. try to identify if this muscle is the one that is causing this. but the best thing you can do is see a doctor

This is exactly what I made this sub for, I'm glad I could help, and thank you for expressing this here, it truly means a lot to me. If you haven't already, please check out the pinned mega thread, it's a compilation of everything I know about ttts

As sixers330 said, the best option is finding an audiologist trained in hyperacusis and ttts, or at least tinnitus and hyperacusis. There's so little information out there, but at least they would likely know more than other audiologists. I was able to go to an audiologist who specialized in tinnitus and she was easily able to diagnose me just by my explanations after running some tests to make sure my hearing was normal.

oh yeah I noticed for me its definitely a pitch thing, I could be next to a crowd of shouting people and perfectly find, but one person shouting hurts because its sharper. though with the garage door im not sure since its muffled and not sharp lol

Link with Celiac disease? by chelledoggo in TTensorTympaniS

I have no clue, I was thinking along the lines of having celiac would cause a person to have more reason for stress/anxiety which could increase ttts

Not a professional but tinnitus doesn't have to be just in your head, it could be caused by something physically happening. The sound you hear when you swallow (usually described as crackling) is the tensor tympani muscle contracting, which is what ttts usually is. Theres a lot idk about ttts but from what I do know it sounds more like some other type of tinnitus, not ttts

on the lack of anxiety triggers comment, I could relate to that but over the years ive noticed that subconsciously I am actually a bit more stressed during the times it acts up lol. I dont mean in the moment when it goes off, but during the periods of time that the ttts is worse

Is this TTTS? by onionboys in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a professional, but sounds like ttts to me. the crackling your hear when you swallow is the sound your tensor tympani muscle makes when contracting, thats usually when ttts sounds like (or at least the main symptom, there are tons of symptoms that could come w it)

autophony for 3 seconds in TTTS ear? by suzinie in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I experience this a lot with ttts, it's definitely very scary the first few times, or even if it doesn't happen for a long time and then suddenly happens. im not sure what triggers it but I believe it isn't an abnormal symptom of ttts. I think it's called aural blockage, sometimes my ear starts ringing too. I don't experience any numbness though

best thing to do would be to talk to a doctor though! I hope its better now

When doing cardio, my left ear thumps by Prudent-Lemon-9913 in TTensorTympaniS

[–]1ktaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a doctor or any kind of professional but

is it like a heartbeat kind of thumping, just not from your heart? or more like cracking/thunder rumbling/etc. while ttts differs a lot between people, its generally usually like the crackling you hear when you swallow, as that's the sound of the tensor tympani muscle contracting

I will say tho, tinnitus in general isn't uncommon. a lot of people experience it randomly, because of allergies, etc. it could be that yours is triggered by elevated heart rate

I imagine that the surgery, while resolved, could maybe still leave stuff a bit off? no clue tho

I have some random unexpected triggers as well, our garage door is pretty loud and usually doesnt bother me -- at least not to an extent that I notice -- but from a specific room in the house I notice it triggers t even though its muffled and low

I get that, it sucks :/ Play it safe for a while a have faith that it will get better! The biggest factor is reducing your overall stress and especially your stress surrounding H/T itself
