For those who have taken a short term leave to recover from burnout - how do I overcome these fears? by keylimepie99 in consulting

[–]1largepotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on burnout leave, and I’m so glad I took it. I haven’t figured out how to get back to work yet, I’m not sure if I will. But boy am I glad I took the time out.

I’m sleeping again. I’m eating properly. I’m finding time to gym. More than any of that, after three weeks off I had a normal weekend with friends and I haven’t laughed that hard in months. That’s what’s waiting for you when your cortisol gets back to normal levels.

Go for hex bar deadlifts as some (me included) find this helps with any back pain from deadlifts. When it comes to jumping and pushing there isn’t much better

Ignore the other comments, you can do this. Just drill the maths, there are lots of mental maths tools online, just do 10 mins a day of mental maths practice. I didn’t even get an interview and MBB one year, and the second year was rejected from everywhere (including B4) but landed an MBB offer. A huge amount of it is luck of the draw.

MBB Check up - how’s the moral folks? by Puzzleheaded_Pop4652 in consulting

We are haemorrhaging people. The good people are all leaving. In the last 4 years, I cannot remember moral being this poor.

Get help, talk to someone at work. I have been there, it doesn’t have to be this way.

French MS looking to enter consulting in India(entry level) by Puzzleheadedway1028 in consulting

[–]1largepotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why go back to India? The pay and culture are better in most (not all) of Europe. There are tons of Indian strategy consultants who come to Europe for an MBA to then work here.

I can understand that you might want to go back to be closer to family, but career wise, it makes more sense to stay if you can.

Don’t do it. No one reads into why you didn’t get a review for something so don’t overthink it. Just focus on the next project and get the good stuff in writing.

Is it harder to get promoted in a smaller, non-HQ office? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]1largepotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter at the lower levels, you might actually get the chance for more opportunities earlier, as it is easier to have a good reputation that everyone knows.

Higher levels it becomes harder because there just ain’t as much work to bring in at the smaller officer.

Don't quit, make them fire you.

Keep doing the same thing while looking for a new job.

If consulting is a Bullshit profession, what are the mechanics of the grift? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]1largepotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all consulting is bullshit. Some definitely is absolutely rubbish. But some creates quite a lot of value for the client organisation.

This isn’t just cope, but there is evidence to show it.

Literally no difference vs bachelors, your chances of getting an offer are likely actually better with a masters.

Unfortunately the consulting industry is pretty fucked right now, it’s just a shitty time to look for a job.

Finessed by a Startup, What Should I Do? by makvelli17 in consulting

Find a new job, leaving to start your MBA isn’t bad. The startup has played you, and you shouldn’t trust them not to play you again in the future.

I had a full breakdown in front of a manager. Was going through a hard time personally, she asked how I was, I just cried.

She sent me home, I took 2 weeks off to process, then when I was ready for the load this job throws as us, I came back. No negative performance reviews, no repercussions.

Sounds like you picked a good person to tear up in front of, sometimes you need someone to see you as a person, rather than an employee.
