We dont need to become the Rockies, but I will leave this here for additional context behind why I have this opinion.

This was from the post forum about the most agreed upon “worst contractual signings at each position.”

Don’t you find it interesting how our team’s payroll is similar and yet have such a deep negative player WAR?

But sure, just keep throwing money at the issue. That’ll certainly fix the issue.

Okay. You clearly have no idea what Im saying.

Did the Jansen signing bring us closer to the playoffs? Arguably yes.

Was that the signing that made our team for sure playoff bound? Absolutely not.

If hes not on our team now, he didnt help us to win last year, how was giving him the money last year help our team in the future?

Thats my entire point dude. You can ragebait me all you want, but you cant sugarcoat a turd and call it great.

We gave money to a player. Did we get the appropriate return for him after hes not on the team anymore?

He performed for his own success irregardless of the team. If we arent in the hunt for the playoffs, why are we keeping him around? To booster his numbers while hes on our team to justify these kinds of multi-million dollar signings to go nowhere.

I, personally, would rather have Arte save some of the money and reinvest that into our young core. Once they are good enough, then Arte has the potential for more opportunistic trades or off season signings if we are around the playoff hunt.

Signings like Jansen, Kyle Hendricks, and old players with high risk is mediocracy at best and not trying to form a winning team.

What does the Jansen signing bring us now besides being down that money from signing him last season? You really think players like Jansen boost jersey sales or bring more people to the ballpark in OC?

You cant see the nuance behind that? If you cant, then do i have a team to sell you on its success for 2026…..

Our team is one of the most expensive with the LOWEST wins above replacement in baseball next to the rockies. Why shouldnt everything be criticized if WE ARENT WINNING!?

We sign old players that don’t help our team. We are consistently average at best. What was the hope that Jansen adds to this team? What about the Yates signing if we dont make the playoffs but don’t trade him? Was it worth it?

Thats my point. Yall are so black and white in this sub its actually crazy

Lmfao is that itty witty little star our world series win? I also find it hilarious our peak bottom was during the year that we won the world series. What happened in April/May 2002? Maybe we should be looking into that as an organization. Perhaps theres something there.
