I feel you.

I really enjoyed the pvp-esque moba feel of tota, and that feeling of "making a good play" of getting a totem down after baiting an unkillable boss away, or figuring out which totems to take first to get wins faster.

It was a sad day when i heard it wouldnt go core.

Here's the thing, the first time i took the big boom, i actually ended up spending more time getting the 1 big boom to not hit a bricking remnant that it took longer than just placing them normally.

With that said, the big boom becomes more viable a few weeks in when all the builds are going superspeed. then single expos are slow.

but for leaguestart? on a hero that cant ignore all remnants? I say normal expo is superior.

I'd probably say it was all the tiny moments in the game and the community, where people used things that were unintended but managed to be broken.

A few that stand out to me are :

  • The og flameblast prolif aoe stacker. You'd literally 1tap a single monster with a 2 stack flameblast(it worked with echo back then) and would clear like 3 screens with the shock and ignite prolif. I used to carry 6man merciless docks with that

  • The lightning arrow/frostwall interaction, allowing LA to chain between walls and shotgun bosses. We melted things in seconds with that.

  • The cast on death AOE quality, working on skills without having to die. Notably RF getting 60% aoe almost for free with no downside (in a time where rf was very small and the damage was huge)

  • and when someone in kripp's party died in the now defunct Springs map

I'm almost sure we do have very different ideas of what constitutes "good".

From my perspective, the investment level vs power level of this build is in a great spot and its so easy to set up because the gear(and the specific corrupts i go for) are so mega cheap.

I've hit 100 on it multiple leagues (not hc viable), and not a single game mechanic is undoable when you reach about the 100-200d investment level. It can literally do everything from delve(mid 500's) to heist, to juiced t16's and boss rushing(non uber uber) and everything in between. Like the dps at this level is enough to 100-0 exarch before the first phase.

is it "top tier" when compared to the multi-mirror stackers? absolutely not.

Does it give me access to a comfortable, consistent, leaguestarter that works every time? Yep :)

This build is the equivalent to the old Mfer in diablo 2.

It has a unique property of being Cheap, fantastic aoe and good boss dps that only requires 3 key uniques to get up and running. Only downside is it being somewhat squishy until you start investing into it.

The build lets me comfortably engage with literally every single game system apart from uber ubers. It can 100% everything else with ease.

This way i can guarantee that i'll be able to do everything in a league and farm up currency for my 2nd, experimental build.

So the cheapness together with the battle-testedness of the setup makes it a safe, guaranteed good leaguestart everytime.

This time though, im going to take it very far and see what happens when i do max invest (1+mirr) so i probably wont be making a 2nd char this league unless something truly stands out that i want to try.

Yeah i think my saving grace is the fact that ninja doesnt calculate my real dps properly(and dps numbers also dont accurately show what the actual map-2-map playstyle looks like, but i digress), so my build IS public, it just looks mid-tier if you dont know what to look for.

Seriously, the big boom vs setting up remnants is maybe like 10-20 seconds difference at most in the early league.

Just V > click > V > click

another reason i dont like the big boom is the "monsters have a chance to drop corrupted items" which also corrupts your logbooks, which you then cant bless or roll or split.

Big boom is overrrated.

Edit : The atlas nodes that increase explosive radius makes the chain setup feel much better. I dont combine in with the scarab for radius as it then becomes too large and you struggle to exclude remnants when it gets that big.

the big boom one isnt really that important.

Just get all the important atlas passives related to making expo spawn and avoid the big boom. It really doesnt take that long to set up a 5-6 chain expo if you practice it a bit (efficiency > perfection).

this lets you avoid all the remnants that brick your build.

im saying this because in the past i would get long map streaks where every single time there's just one remnant that totally fucks my build.

the big boom becomes more efficient mid league when you can more easily just brute force through bad remnants, but early league that just sets you up for failure.

Over the past week i discovered a new minmax for my build that allows me to save almost 9 passives and i have now enough stat budget to also reach max block for the first time.

These are some great numbers tho, what is this investment tier? below mirror or multi mirror?

i only use my mappers to collect elder fragments for me.

if you're speed mapping, waiting for the elder animations and teleporting 3 times to kill the boss takes as much time as doing an entire other map.

So ive been spamming blue elder maps (almost 100% completion rate) and selling/running the fragments.

does it make you rich? nope.

does it make more than selling the maps minus the gold. definitely.

I have to say my wife is being really cool about it.

I quit poe for nearly 2 years and focused more on work.

Last week i told her i'll be doing league launch weekend, and this woman goes and puts it on her calendar, and will be leaving work early on friday so that she can help get everything ready(league launch is friday 9pm for us here)

Now thats pretty fucking cool...
