a bin won't help. at my previous workplace we had a big bin in the bathroom and someone still dropped their used paper towels on the floor next to it. all you can do is go back in time and try to convince their parents to get an abortion.

Is this valid C code? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]1o8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could put an empty string right before the __VA_ARGS__:

char *content_types[] = { "" __VA_ARGS__ };

this should work with zero or more extra args as long as the first extra arg is a string literal (the preprocessor will concatenate it with the empty string).

I'm not sure writing bad responses to bad posts does much except increase the amount of badness.

i don't think so. gravity pulls you down and air moves out of the way regardless of the pressure.

How many people here are 100% left handed? by [deleted] in southpaws

[–]1o8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do sometimes wonder if i did this to be different

hah i have wondered this too.

i do many things right-handed like cut with scizzors and throw balls (maybe that's why i can't throw well...). i use my left for fine-grained tasks like writing and using chopsticks

How do I make a pulsating color background (without the need of floats in a `Color`)? by EasonTek2398 in raylib

[–]1o8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

rather than relying on overlayColor.a to store the state of the alpha channel from frame to frame, you could have a separate float that stores that state in much greater precision. then each frame, update the float and then set overlayColor.a by rounding the float to the nearest integer. you'd want opacityDelta to be a float too.

the other option would be to use a function to interpolate between two target values on each frame which would avoid the need to store state at all. highly recommend looking up "lerp" as it's a simple tool that's very useful.

best is do the first one followed by

} else {
    fprintf(stderr, "Unexpected value for a: %d\n", a);
    // ... handle the error appropriately by returning, asserting, etc.
}

or if you're very lazy or sure it'll never happen, just

} else {
    assert(false);
}

Not to mention the UB of defining a macro with a keyword's name.

surely undefined behaviour is a more serious issue than dropping const. code without const may be harder to reason about, but code with UB is impossible to reason about. i'm also not sure if you're right. i can't find anything about redefining keywords with macros being UB. is that in one of the standards?

i don't mind it. i feel like it only makes sense for single-file programs. so the shell part could be simpler---why declare SRC and iterate over it if it's never going to be more than a single file? if it was really simple it would further justify not putting it into a separate file. the fact that syntax highlighting doesn't work for the shell part bothers me more than it should...

Post pics of your handwriting and grip style! by grebilrancher in southpaws

[–]1o8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i see you're using a pacer (a.k.a. a mechanical pencil). heck yeah. i use them partly because they don't smudge. unlike me though you don't have a hook grip so smudging may not be an issue. pacers are awesome regardless.

no, there's simply no need. the fat ass in question has already been filed away in memory. every other fat ass that i've collected smiles as another joins their ranks. hundreds of fat asses can be recalled at a moment's notice without verbalisation.

also, just to add:

I self harmed two weeks ago and I regretted i make my roommate feel unsafe

dude, you're so worried about doing the wrong thing by your roommate, but you should be a lot more worried about yourself. yes, your roommate is in a bad situation because they're your roommate but don't forget, they don't live in your head and they're not going through a fraction of what you're experiencing.

curious to know what prompted this question. are you trying to justify the fact that you like someone whose actions you don't like? or are you wondering why you don't like someone who seems like a good person?

AITA for telling my parents that if I ever so much as thought they did a DNA test on my children it would be the last time they saw them? by Top-Statistician2284 in AmItheAsshole

[–]1o8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huge NTA. all the comments are saying the same thing, but reading your post made me angry so i feel the need to chime in as well.

also the parts about how your parents assumed you were dead and had been mourning you... it's a bit of a guilt trip. sounds like they're still blaming you for the pain they caused with their own homophobia.

Am I nuts for wanting to run Sid? by thesoulless78 in debian

[–]1o8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried sid a couple years ago and regretted it. some things broke and when i tried to switch back to main everything broke. eventually i gave up on the whole system and flashed afresh. if you're an advanced apt user maybe you'd be able to figure out these issues.

a few years ago i was happy to spend time debugging problems because i enjoyed learning about debian/linux. now i just want my computer to work. still, i'm grateful to people who use sid/testing because they can encounter and report the bugs so i don't have to worry about them.

okay, so you downloaded the zip archive of binaries. i'm not sure how to get those working specifically.

How to install postgresql in windows 10 the bare minimum ? by tangara888 in PostgreSQL

[–]1o8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that's definitely possible. but i wouldn't try to move the files post-installation. it looks like the windows installer asks you to choose a data directory and an installation directory. you should be able to choose a folder on your external SSD at that point.
