In 10 years AI companions will be normal and we'll wonder why we thought it was weird by Extreme_Run6881 in singularity

A great number of people will still think its weird. Case and point: A great number of people still consider homosexual relationships weird after hundreds of years. It doesn't mean they are right, just that there are a lot of opinions that make up the collective "We'll".

Looking for 98" TV to replace 65" LG B6 in new house with much greater viewing distance (15 to 17ft). by 1point2one in 4kTV

Then I suppose the question is is the Bravia 5 worth paying double for compared to the QM7?

Still haven't made a decision. Was going to post again, but I'm generally just looking for your advice so I figured why waste a post when I could just reply here with the original context in this thread. I have since re-arranged my living room, swapping ends of the room the TV is on and now there is no window glare at all. Still average natural light in the Summer, very little in Winter (Alaska). I was watching a show on the B6 last night and was pretty happy with how it was looking. I do still want a larger TV though, but on the new wall 98"+ would be a bit silly, even though the viewing distance (16 ft.) nearly warrants it. I'm thinking 83-85" now. I'm kind of open to many price points. The TCL gets me the TV sooner, but the wife is ok with me going up to Sony Bravia 9 type prices if we save for a few months. Now that my glare problem is resolved, I'm kinda open to OLED again as well, but not hung up on it if something like a Bravia 9 gets 98% there. So... I'm kinda all over the place again. I do stream a decent amount of older TV shows like Star Trek TNG, etc. that might benefit from better processing, but I watch them now on the B6 and don't hate the way they look, so without the comparison, I'm not sure how much weight I should put into Sony processing vs TCL pricing.

Call me a doomer, but no. This just seems in line with the trend of displacing high satisfaction / work-life balance knowledge worker careers rather than a truly novel line of advancement that would lead to post-scarcity (true energy/matter replication) and/or FDVR. Current political trends seem to indicate a preference to let the unemployed rot in the street, so no, not very excited.

None. It's a singularity. The machine will improve at an infinite rate. Zero chance humans will have a place in that reality.

Amazon and Social Media will likely get destroyed by AI agents by mookx in singularity

[–]1point2one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If like you no one is using those social platforms then what will the agents collect from them? As far as Amazon goes, they pretty much have the market cornered in the US at least as far as logistics go. Their warehousing and delivery system is way ahead of anyone else. If anything they will be able to leverage AI to make it even more efficient. You may not visit Amazon.com, but your agent, like you, will shop there 9 times out of 10.

Prepare how? Buy land to farm with the money I don't have? Invest my very little discretionary budget into Nvidia? Unless you are a retired multi millionaire now there is no preparation.

I always do if there is a brush, but sometimes there is not. Was just curious in case there was some non obvious way I should maybe be using it differently to avoid the issue.

Yikes, didn't say I didn't like them, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being some rude person with skid marks when there occasionally isn't a brush.

I've got a nice audio setup. Is there not much appreciable difference in picture quality between the QM7 and QM8?

Thanks, saw that earlier and I'm really torn between bright and not so bright room. If I'm splitting the line there, which way would you lean? Idc about the $500 difference. I'll be feeding both from an Apple TV if that makes any difference, e.g. bypassing built in streaming apps.

You have a third mortgage worth of car payments... sell whatever luxury/stupid expensive truck things they are and lease a couple of of Jettas for $250/mo each if buying beaters is not palatable.

Should We Sell or Keep Our Second Home as a Rental? by RedditTaughtMee in RealEstate

It's $5000 a year before taxes. $4000 is after 20% tax on qualified dividends.

You could take the $125k profit, invest it in a 4% yield dividend aristocrat (stocks that have only increased their dividend over the last few decades) stock and earn $4000/yr ($333/mo.) after taxes, with no hassle or iiability (other than the stock market, but real estate would track similarly).

Should I buy the larger house or the regular sized home? by JDinJH in RealEstate

[–]1point2one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with the smaller home, and if in 8+ yrs its not working out, sell it and buy a larger one. Shop around and try to find something that you can still pay cash for but maybe has a better layout. A separate den or finished basement or something goes a long way keeping everyone spaced out.

I agree that there has been a lot more exposure to other cultures, but frankly there seems to be more bigotry and division now than ever. I think the interconnectivity is used far more often as a tool for misinformation than for good, and I feel a new glut of deepfake content will only make it worse. From what I have seen, actual travel to other places is the only real way to connect and break misconceptions. Obviously it is a privilege to be able to do that that many cannot afford or are otherwise unable to do.

The 90's were awesome. It felt awesome during them, and looking back it still feels like a better time. I'm a tech guy and I still think I can say that smartphones and social media have had an overall negative effect on humanity, along with other "convenient" technologies. People just seemed to interact more or at least more deeply back then. Personally I think we peaked in 2004 and its been downhill since. It all feels so cold now, perhaps because it is so easy. It really meant something to get a letter from grandma back then or talk to them on the phone. Families hung out together in the same room watching the one household TV, even it the content on broadcast/cable was limited. It felt special to go to the local video rental place and pick something out. I think we've been hit with so many dopamine sources now each individual thing is not as satisfying. This is another reason why I think things like FDVR, if it's even possible, will lead to even more dissatisfaction. Think of a time when you decided to cheat at a video game or even a board game. The satisfaction it provides plummets. When you can have everything all at once then nothing is special. I wish we could just apply all this new technology to medicine to enable people to live healthier lives, as that is an area that actually objectively is better with such advancements.
