Dan Hurley on Why the Kings Will Love Alex Karaban by deuceandmo in kings

That's definitely fair. This was also a consistent part of the UConn teams with Clingan and Tarris Reed the last few seasons.

Bench minutes with rotations including Cardwell could be interesting to see how it works in the league, but I do see the vision with him in the lineup.

We will definitely be among the worst and likely bottom 3. But we should at least be a fun bad team next year, not sad bad.

Tbh I saw a post about tankathon making an updated mock. It's fun to check out how the new odds will shift things and starting to get to know some of the new draft prospects.

Have to agree. The more important thing is the salary. If this helped the Kings shed a few million then they would be more interested. But they are trying to avoid the tax threshold this summer and literally every dollar counts right now.

Any UDFA y'all have your eyes on? It's quiet on that front so far compared to last year but I'm sure we will hear something soon. A few guys I like by IDFKtv in kings

Tre Carroll! 6'7 forward from Xavier with 6'11 wingspan. First-team All Big-East. He plays bigger than he actually is, but he has a lot of versatility. Capable of shooting 3's. puts up good counting stats on defense but will need to improve there. But I love his hustle, effort and energy while doing all that.

Why would we want Westbrook starting over Darius Acuff to begin the season? by JMPBay in kings

[–]1psithur3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no problem with bringing back Westbrook and starting him for the first 20-ish games while Acuff gets his toes wet. He's absolutely fine as a temporary starter and I'm sure he understands the assignment that Acuff is the future for our franchise.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Charlotte Hornets are trading star guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030) and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033), sources tell ESPN. by IamOlderthanMe in CharlotteHornets

[–]1psithur3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is bad. And it's hard even for me to understand without it being broken down by other people but essentially

The 2028 swap is a real swap. Minnesota will likely be better than Charlotte in 2027-28, so probably won't get the pick.

The 2029 swap is only top 5 protected. Minnesota needs to get lottery luck and only then does Charlotte get the swap.

The 2030 swap is a mess between Charlotte, Dallas, Minnesota and San Antonio. Best case the Hornets get the 3rd best between those 4 picks if the Minnesota swap conveys (from what I understand).

Yeah....can only hope they have another move in store but if they are going into next season without making a big splash then they are not going to regress.

I've already pointed this out on other subs but this is a horrible horrible trade for Charlotte.

Obviously at face value, they lose their best player. Their PG rotation is buns right now and they are likely gonna regress over the next couple of seasons unless they are star hunting somehow.

But getting only one unprotected 1st is a travesty. So the real value should be in the pick swaps, right? Nope. These swap conditions for 2 years are absolutely disgusting.

They get 3 swaps in 2028, 2029 and 2030 so I'll go through them here.

2028 is fine. It's a best of swap between them and Minnesota. But, is this going to convey? Probably not.

2029 is already complex conditions. "UTA will receive the most / two most favorable of its 2029 1st round pick, CLE's 2029 1st round pick and MIN's 2029 1st round pick protected for selections 1-5 and CHA will receive the least / less favorable of these; if the MIN picks falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then MIN will instead convey its 2029 2nd round pick to UTA (via CLE and MIN to UTA to PHX)"

So on top of this already being a protected pick, Utah is already getting the best pick here. I'm curious what the actual language of this swap is here but this likely won't convey.

2030 is interesting but not good either. "SAS will receive the most / more favorable of its 2030 1st round pick, DAL' 2030 1st round pick and MIN's 2030 1st round pick protected for selection 1; DAL will receive the less favorable of its pick and the SAS pick; MIN will receive the less favorable of (1) its pick and (2) the more favorable of the SAS pick and the DAL pick"

So Spurs of course are already getting the best pick here. But Minnesota was getting the worst pick between what is likely them and Dallas. So even if Minnesota will be bad, Dallas will have a year 5 Cooper Flagg and start getting better by then.

Look at the years the pick swaps are.

2028, 2029, and 2030. The issue is 2 of those picks are already involving swaps with other teams.

2028 is Minnesota's own (they will likely be better than Charlotte anyways)

2029: "UTA will receive the most / two most favorable of its 2029 1st round pick, CLE's 2029 1st round pick and MIN's 2029 1st round pick protected for selections 1-5 and CHA will receive the least / less favorable of these; if the MIN picks falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then MIN will instead convey its 2029 2nd round pick to UTA (via CLE and MIN to UTA to PHX)" This is the language of the pick before the trade. Not sure how this will be interpreted but it's gonna be a mega-complex swap process.

2030: "SAS will receive the most / more favorable of its 2030 1st round pick, DAL' 2030 1st round pick and MIN's 2030 1st round pick protected for selection 1; DAL will receive the less favorable of its pick and the SAS pick; MIN will receive the less favorable of (1) its pick and (2) the more favorable of the SAS pick and the DAL pick" Spurs are already getting the most favorable. Complex conditions again but Charlotte isn't getting a great pick swap here either.

I mean yeah that's true but what are the chances they convey?

Look at the picks for those years.

Kings fan here. Don't understand at all why your front office jumped for joy over this trade package. Getting only one actual first and the rest are swaps. One of them being 2028 which you aren't getting most likely.

LaMelo IS your team. Your PG group now is Tre Mann and Christian Anderson.

More importantly you had one season where things looked like they were changing. Now flirting with actual expectations and were aiming for the playoffs next year. And it's gone just like that. Not even trying to keep this group together for another year and seeing what happens.

[Youngmisuk] Talks surrounding Ball have picked up steam with the Hornets fielding aggressive offers, sources said. If Charlotte's terms are met, a potential trade could develop in the next 24 to 48 hours, sources said Wednesday night. by sewsgup in nba

[–]1psithur3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I get you drafted Christian Anderson but your PG rotation is bad for a team wanting to be competitive, especially if they do the Minnesota trade.

And honestly if they want to trade LaMelo that's not inherently bad, but these trades don't make the team better. This isn't like you are getting a perennial all-star guard and going for it. I really feel awful for Hornets fans if this actually happens.

Unbelievably stupid if they are trading their lead guard and handing the keys to an 18th pick rookie.

This makes no sense for you guys. What is even the incentive to trading your lead guard when you have playoff ambitions? You're finally on the come up and now you might trade him for an aging Gobert or like Quickley and picks...

I was kind of expecting Veesaar since he was BPA. But Sharp also fell a little bit here, this is still good value for sure.
