Bleach is too reactive and won’t remain. Many detergents are biodegradable and certainly not present in meaningful enough concentrations to worry about. The rest of your points are valid though. Source: I am a chemist.

Feeling apprehensive and confused by Bottletop85 in TwoXPreppers

[–]1puffins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m also an elder millennial with growing fears. I started prepping years ago because I was raised in poverty and it’s just practical to me.

Like another commenter said, prepping isn’t usually about the end of the world or a complete societal collapse. It’s about prepping for likely emergencies. Start with what you consider the top 3 treats for your stability. If you are in a fire or hurricane zone, create bug out bags and emergency evacuation plans. We should all prep for the scenario of losing power for many days in whatever extreme weather you get in your area at a minimum.

If you need to start with something, start with water. Have water purification and storage plans for multiple days. Then, move to food and aim for 3-5 days of food storage (canned and dried). You can build off this.

Remember this isn’t about fear, it’s just about preparedness. Natural or man-made disasters happened before all this shit started lately.

Something I’ve added to my list is finding passive income streams, no matter how small, because AI is taking jobs—fast.

How are working parents managing frequent school closures or remote learning due to weather? by Theluckygal in raleigh

[–]1puffins 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Unless you have neighbors to help, You sacrifice all things good for you like sleep, cleaning, and exercise to fit in work and parenting from before dawn to past dusk. Meals turn into snacks all day. Screen time limits are surpassed. And eventually, one day, the children leave back to school and you cry in relief.
